Ugh the AOC is a bit of a wanker for putting an answer timer (sometimes I accidentally submit the example answer, and it takes 0.1s to fix but nooo you have to wait because the guy is retarded)
BTW I had to implement the parsing completely custom because of dynamically sized blocks, what did you guys do?13 -
@lensflare I'm doing AOC with swift so far I like it, it's unfortunate they do the retarded "modern" `let name: <type>` thing and strings can be annoying to substring, otherwise it's good17
-
Oh dang you guys have been busy enough that there are new rants all the way at the end of the recents list8

I decided to buy a rack + PC case and a new HDD. Since I wasn't expecting to need to change the HDD for years, I put it on the mount that has the screws in an annoying place. Guess which drive is dead on arrival -_- I'll have to remove the whole box from the rack I think to get to it
I'm happy with the new setup when it's running, but the constant issues are annoying (mainly pains of fresh linux setup or having to wait on parts and things to arrive on time)6 -
Love seeing the expected delivery time of a delivery slowly slide from the morning into the afternoon (including the latests at!) -_-
And these guys don't always ring the bell, so I need to listen to a running truck thingy and the beep as they scan the package.
And it's dev related stuff ;p7 -
Got to love PM/other dev ignoring to review an open PR for weeks, now PM creates a copy of those PRs and I get to smack him with the "is this a duplicate?" knowing damn well it is and he should have gotten off his high horse and looked at the damn PRs.
There is a bug in prod where saves weren't properly propagating, so these PRs need to be merged ;P3 -
PM is on his period, and since I'm leaving, anyone have any "fun" recommendations to leave in the code?27
-
Well my 9950X3D arrived, now I can load all of the isspam data into the CPU, good luck @12bitfloat4
-
So glad I'll be gone from this client. Dev asks if he can go over sentry issues and gets told "no"3
-
Turns out it wasn't the RAM nor the graphics card but the barely used NVME (that I recently started using with linux as boot) that was causing random crashes.
Very tempted to still just replace the whole thing...
Nothing too important on there other than my bash history and LLM models16 -
Recruiter finally got back to me, and guess what now they can't do tomorrow, the one day I don't (normally) have client work, but instead they want to do friday. It's not even the office I'd be working at, this one is 3 hours away by train. Sigh what a week, PC is half on the fritz as well. Head honcho is gone so Mr Small PP is being whiny. Ugh.

Just finished the code tests. I swear all of them could have just been regex. The first 2 I know can be because I did.
The last one was pattern matching in an array of strings (think battleships)
I actually fucked up the second test because I decided that they probably want code instead of regex...8 -
Been practising for the codility test, thinking maybe only the first couple training tests are shitty non-programming math/compsi problems written in code. Haven't even done the test yet, and I'm already tempted to message the recruiter back that I'm no longer interested, since if this is how they test their devs I doubt they're getting the best. I'll still do it since it's the weekend, but I guarantee I can get AI to generate the most "efficient" aka the exact and only solution they want.
The first orange flag was the fact that the HR lady didn't know much about recent tech...

Had my first interview with a company now they want to schedule an in person (during work hours I assume) at their head office which is ~3 hours away with public transport... Also want me to do a Codility test, anyone done them before?18

Been installing llama.cpp using aur and have ccache installed. Well for some reason one of the dependencies has some system lib incompatibly when it uses the cached object, you'd think running ccache -c would fix it, but no had to manually delete the cache folder8

After 5 days of being /gone/ finally caught up again. Anyway, see you all next week or when page 4 is fully unread again
(not really, just have been busy)
(btw you can get temporarily banned from commenting it seems)9 -
Company is not doing well so decided to go job hunting again, or rather respond on linkedin. Didn't think I cared that much, but I have been unable to finish the work I need to do, something that I should be able to do in a day at most. Half of me is "remember you don't care" the other half is "why are such a slacker, useless piece of shit"
Anyway, first call with an actual recruiter was positive7 -
It's been fun, will probably still check over the coming week to see if dR recovers, otherwise so long and thanks for all the fish 🫡

Oh, and hedgehogs are super cute, love them so, just like coy foxes1 -
Tester mentions deployment failing, I go check. Strange terraform is exiting with a failure.
Mention that there is an error with infra code. PM comes in "HURDUR it's not broken". Literally, terraform saying error and exiting with status code 1 causing the whole deploy pipeline to fail is not broken, sure buddy.1 -
Well, dR just disappeared for a bit but glad it's back, but I can see that recent rants are gone (because I was trying to catch up on missing rants)

I see we need some more anti-spam accounts.
Calling everyone to adopt some new ones (https://devrant.com/rants/16155083/...)
Open this to adopt: https://birth.molodetz.nl/
Also, can we get some praise for @retoor's awesome work, she deserves some more praise4
