Do you like IO? If yes don't. Do you like solid build quality? Then sure 😐. Do you like constantly being the butt of both the Linux and the windows using DEVS jokes? Then by all means go ahead and knock yourself out. 👍🏼

Depends on what you want to do. Gaming and .net development? No.

Development aimed at Unix-like systems (PHP, Node, Go) without having some deeper knowledge on Unix-like systems? Yes.

Development aimed at Unix-like systems but with deeper knowledge on those systems?
No. Go for Linux then. But then again, I don't think you would ask this question then.

I've owned and developed on mac for the past few years. If 3 years ago, you asked this question, i would ask you if you need portability, stability and battery life. If só, it was worth the investiment. Now days, after seeing the latest version os both mac and osx, i'm considering to change away. Linux wise i prefer debian/ubuntu, and there were battery issues, which now days dont exist. On windows, my main issue was that there was no proper bash (sorry cigwin fans), but that is bring solved as well. It was never a matter of wanting or not to háve deeper knowledge of unix. I (used to) like osx. But now days, all the changes i see seem to be for the worse. Of course, these are my 2 cents. If you buy it, it will work

For video or photo editing, the screen is great.

For performance/price, any other laptop is great

    Personally I wouldnt buy it

If you plan on developing iOS specific things, then do for sure as this can't be done on Windows/Linux without a Hackintosh in some form. I got one for this reason and I really like its battery and quality. Mine is also a refurbished one, so it was about half the regular price. They're damn expensive.

so most of the javascript tutorials i found contain screenshots made on a mac - Am I wrong if I assume that many web developers use macs?

Why wouldnt you? If you could ever consider doing mobile development you will need one for ios development and everything else can be done on it so why not.

fuck all that, you can put any OS you want in a Mac and develop or game whatever.... unless your question is can I use Mac Os

If you want to, then yes. Make your own decisions and don't let these neobytes try and tell you other wise. Most people here would tell you no just because they don't like it because they use Windows or Linux. And that fine, they can use what they want, all use what I want, and if you want a mac then get a mac :)

If you have money... why not. :)

Honestly mate... If you want to be a good developer don't! If you want to be a designer go ahead ... Thou now they are 5 times slower and they are removing the features that made them better for Mac's ...

At least research before you buy mate

@Artemix I agree - i was looking for a linux notebook (running Arch on my Desktop PC) but then bought a used Macbook Pro from 2013, because I plan to make iOS apps.

I hate the keyboard layout - especially when I have to switch from PC to Mac. But I really never touched a Notebook with a similar haptic / quality. That's what I really like. In all other cases you are right. linux would have been my choice, because i find Macbooks unreasonable expensive.
