Getting my own island where the weather is always good, the beaches are white, the water is blue, the food is plenty and good, the internet is fast and I have a lot of servants to do all my chores. My wife and kids can also come and I'm free to invite whoever I want, whenever I want.

I've never been on a hackathon.

In elementary school, when I got my first computer (a 286 with b/w monitor and a whopping 8mhz), I discovered that a .bat file was nothing more than a set of instructions.

So my first "programs" where nothing more than .bat files. Then, at summer camp, one of the instructors noticed I was kind of a nerd, so he introduced me to QBasic. Later on, a friend of my mother showed me Turbo Pascal 6.0. So I was already creating games when I left elementary school.

Then, on secondary school, I stopped most of my programming stuff and was mostly interested in drawing and making music.

But, on college I rediscovered programming with Flash, HTML, PHP and Director. This was around the time that AS2 and PHP4 were still cool.

Later on, in university, I became nerd full on, but still the main focus on web development.

Free time... sometimes I want to program, learn new stuff and work on personal projects, but sometimes I just want to be a couch potato and play hours and hours of video games...

I really love programming!

Are there people here who actually unit/integration/end-to-end/stress test (almost) everything? Or is it a common fact that nobody has time/budget and/or needs to do so?

I like to think I test all the code I write, but to be honest, I think it's closer to 1 to 5%

Is it a dev-thing that I always prefer 24H over AM/PM? Or are there any AM/PM lovers here?

Updating to Sierra. These 5 minutes are taking more than 30 by now...

My most shameless hacks mostly include cronjobs that run every 5 minutes to cleanup or fix some faulty stuff...

The fact that my wife thinks Devrant is lame is for me more confirmation that Devrant is the only social network for me worth spending time on. Thanks @dfox for making the world a better place for developers.

Does anyone else sometimes feel like they're working in 'the IT crowd'?

Am I the only one who is working on a different project every day? And they're not small projects. All medium sized e-commerce sites (Magento 1&2) with tons of custom made functionality.

Soooo counter productive...

For some reason our PM's think it's the most efficient way to do it this way, even though we said numerous times it causes the opposite result. Having to switch to a different project every day and constantly picking up where you left a week ago is so frustrating...

what's your opinion on search engine marketeers? I think they're smurky and don't know how the internet works. I once had a 'SEO specialist' even telling me that my HTML wasn't correct because it didn't had the same markup as Google's documentation. For the record: it díd have all the microdata, but I used <ol> instead of <ul>. So yeah...

i noticed just know that the scrollbar in Devrant kinda moves like a caterpillar. especially with long posts.

@dfox: is it just my Android device or is it the app that new sentences don't automatically start with a capital while typing. Kind of frustrating to manually press shift for each new line. Or am I just a little bit spoiled?

I'm a developer, but also a father of 2 kids. I love spending time with them, but sometimes I also like to work on my side projects. And besides that, after a long day of work, even if I have spare time, I also like to lay down on the couch and watch Netflix.

How do you other full time developer / parents out there cope with your own personal projects?
