There can be:
7 continents.
6 continents (america being a single continent)
5 continents (not counting antarctica)
4 continents (what you said)
3 continents (america, africa-eurasia, and fuck either oceania or antarctica)
2 continents (new world and old world)
1 continent (the earth, who cares about oceans separating land masses?) -
@atheist give me one reason why the oural moutain chain should be continental bound while the alps, the hymalayas, the rockies shouldn't.
Beside "european" being white I mean -
@antigermanist who cares about mountains? Let's look at continental tectonic plates. Then you've got north America, south America, Eurasia, Africa, Australia, Antarctica. 6. Then a few smaller ones like India.
Europe isn't a continent, true, but mountains aren't the point.
Europe is sometimes referred to as a continent by politicians.
Geologically it's the western part of the Eurasian continent.
If you're talking about socioeconomic "continents", the reason the rockies don't split America is because it's the same country on either side. -
So like I said. "Shit people that don't know anything about geology" or politics say.
Europe isn't a continent. If montain chains were enough to bound continents then new york and los angeles aren't on the same continent, nor are china and india.
There are four continents: america, asia, australia, antartica. That's it.
