would you prefer to get bigger bonus than see money wasted on company parties with expensive bands and foods ? am i the only one having the feeling, that as an adult professional, i prioritize more to get a good car or having a nice furniture , than having a good party?

    What dev doesn’t love parties?!

Almost every time, but this is also why the bossman would come round and ask if we have anything we would like to write off from the budget

they think the party will go a longer way cuz their cult stuff told them it would

and tbh most people can't tell

@Lensflare hate to say this but modern devs are just laymen. Being years with some collegues and no one ever proposed to build something on our build time (neither learning something new)

@gatoMalicioso hmmm it's in their business books

leme see if I can find one

I'm saying it's a cult because it's like propaganda. like how they teach comp sci students to use Amazon services now in school instead of knowing how to host your own stuff

hmm asked AI and it doesn't know. maybe it was in peter thiel's "one to zero" book. it was some concept of "perks over salaries"

    found this wiki page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...

I know from running a contracting business for a while that you can avoid taxes by buying things with company money -- you're only taxed on revenue as a corp, so basically no tax if it's "expenses". but if you look at the numbers, the "perks" companies give are not expensive to them. it was this idea that people don't know the worth of money, and instead they end up perceiving the perks emotionally and thinking they were worth more money than they were, psychologically. there was a push for that at some point. maybe lost to time now
