    Oh! Now I really want to do that!

    @L8NightScience nature documentaries ofc
  • 35
    @L8NightScience Linux ISOs, those things are fat ass files!
  • 17
    @dottedr @-vim- I am guessing "Study Material"
  • 10
    The purpose of university network is Q3A and CoD2.
  • 13
    Library connections are best connections tho, least saturated.

    @L8NightScience I just downloaded some graphing software that was pretty beefy (physics requires it). Might go back if I ever have to download the android SDK tho... That's probably the biggest download I'll ever have to make.

    Now that I think of it... Next time I have to illegally borrow some series or movie and torrent it, I know where to go πŸ˜‡πŸ˜Ž

    It feels like this post must be 10 years old... you are happy with 50 Mb/s down? And here I sit, cursing that this coffee shop has only 300/50.
  • 6
    @bittersweet why do you need more than 300Mbps? Especially why do bad to curse? (I think I am doing something wrong as I don't need such speed outside initial setup)
  • 12
    @bittersweet 300 MB/s or Mbps? Difference matters :D

    Also, I don't download enough for such speeds to make sense, but we don't have the tech for that here :( at home my grandparents have the latest and greatest Fibre op, but maxes out around 20 MB/s :( and I consider that to be blazing fast, having lived on < 3MB/s my whole life (even just 6 years ago I was probably maxing 300KB/s, those were sad times...)

    Hacker man
  • 5
    They locked the cables together at my university :/
  • 3
    @polaroidkidd Man that sucks, just look around and they're bound to have one without... And if not... Bring your own cable :D
  • 2
    I'd much rather download it home and stay in bed.
  • 3
    @electrineer University demands my presence tho so while I'm here I might as well...
  • 6
    They have free ethernet ports at my school :p
  • 3
    @Jifuna Thing is, I don't even need a cable :P just steal the one that is already there

    Plot twist
    The librarian emerges out of the shadow from behind you, like batman
  • 4
    @speedForce Not sure we have one... πŸ€”

    And I don't think anyone understands anyways, their tech knowledge ends at the Properties tab of the print dialog. And if anyone came up to me and told me not to, I'd scare them away with an explanation of why what I'm doing is fine😎

    EDIT: Although... If she popped out of the shadows... Maybe I won't be able to scare her with buzzwords and then I'm seriously screwed 😢☹️

    This is profit! πŸ˜‚πŸ‘
  • 2
    @suprano No regrets, much profit 😎
  • 2
    50mb/s is that it lmao my college gives me like 200mb/s πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
  • 1
    @Jacobgc That's some serious profit man... Then again, here ISP's don't give a shit and hate us so we have to pay a lot for crap.
  • 2
    @nanoandrew4 yeah I think my college has at least 1 gigabit link. Might have 2 I’m not sure
  • 4
    That’s some shitty networking for you there. Bad switch conf. It should’nt share out dynamic ip addresses to unknown mac addresses. Probably unsecured as well
  • 2
    @nanoandrew4 Hackerman ! ✌️
  • 3
    LOL sorry, but we have 1000 MB/s at school. Both up&down
  • 2
    The guys in my digital art/video class were so cool, they LET me do the same when i was installing arch... the one who knew a little less about computers wasn't too big of a fan
  • 2
    @-vim- 400mb - 1.2Gb? what's fat about that? (yes, ubuntu studio is REALLY really big but we dont talk about that one)
    6-8 gb because your operating system was never refactored in later versions, just built ontop of its old peices, is a FAT problem
  • 2
    @nanoandrew4 ever built the inkscape-092-git package?
    it takes longer than the download
  • 1
    @ParkCity Nah, never built it. I'm terrible at anything artsy, so I don't even try...

    I have Blender and GIMP from the good old days when I thought I had a chance. Reality has settled in tho xD
  • 2
    My uni has the same speeds as my home. Both Gbit, but at home it's less saturated
  • 2
    Got that at home... I can tell you it won't make npm install faster...
  • 1
    I thought I was the only one to do that. I always took my Pi with the yt-upload script there and uploaded my stuff with 100mb/s up.
  • 1
    Lol, not if you have a MacBook πŸ’» “Pro”

    I have a MacBook Pro :(
    Sad thing is that I was in IT and Networking when I bought it
  • 1
    Which school in the world provides 50Mbps ethernet connect ? Here it is hardly 512Kbps.
  • 2
    @R3AM uhhhh
    Literally every single one in Germany
  • 1
  • 0
    @bitsnpieces Haha. Yah right.
  • 1
    @R3AM In my university in Denmark I get ~60 MB/s with fucking WiFi
  • 1
    @polaroidkidd wifi usb key into their computer and adhoc it to yours.
    Shit used to work like a charm.
  • 0
    In my University back in Tunisia I used to get 8MB/s down and we were concerned the lucky kids, 3 years ago πŸ™„
    Man I feel old

    My biggest annoyance in college is slow internet. I have long used online sources for study much more often than books from libraries. I'm used to being able to do homework online with https://papersowl.com/do-my-homewor... and can always get quality homework in all subjects. And on those days when there is no internet on campus or its speed drops, it makes me nervous, because if I can do without entertainment content, then it can often harm my studies, especially in the middle of the semester.

    Wow, nice speed bro!
