WE NEED TO GO DEEPER

<rant>
This rant is upsetting and shows that our community can really use work in being more inclusive.
This sounds like your typical "real developers do X" post and those posts only promote an exclusive and elitist culture in a community already struggling with inclusion.
I have a Bachelors of Science in Computer Science and besides the fact that I learned to code in my major, I was never prepared for what I do outside of college (Web Development).
I would argue that a Bachelors of Design might even be more relevant for web development because it promotes good design patterns that I just don't have exposure to.
Learning to code outside of university is now so easy and we should not discredit those trying to learn in a non-traditional way.

@ILMostro https://code.visualstudio.com
It's a very popular text editor - similar to Atom or Sublime.
It's also my personal favorite and highly recommended it!
It's open source and has quite a big following! -
@Ashkin you're not even giving Microsoft a chance.
There has been a HUGE culture shift at Microsoft with the embrace of Linux and OSS.
Azure offers experiences for Linux and Windows pros.
I'm sure you have very valid reasons for the hate, but do consider how much Microsoft has changed in the past years.
Is everything perfect now? Absolutely not. But there's a huge push to embrace cultures and processes outside of the Windows world and I think those outside of the Windows world should see that and take it as an opportunity to help Microsoft grow. Who knows, maybe there are lessons to be learned from helping Microsoft. -
@Ashkin but... Microsoft does.

I mean... Microsoft <3 Linux now. They're even a part of the Linux Foundation.

My Apple interviewer wanted to give me their email at the end of the interview and I wiped out Google Keep on my Android device and handed it to them.
It felt a little strange but I got the job - even working on iPhone related things 😂 oh the irony. -
@Levy
> be silent
There are a number of quiet switches just for this reason. They're quite nice. There are also sound dampening O-rings as well.
> not too high, not too low
Subjective, but there are different key cap profiles for people that like tall or short keys.
> LEDs
RGB LEDs completely customizable are pretty common :)
> Macros
I have a keyboard that has 3 programmable layers for tons of macro fun. Programmable layers are decently common in the mech key community :)
If you have other questions, I'm happy to answer!
If you want links of what I'm talking about I can supply those too -
@hift PBT Double-Shot is the real MVP - nice to the touch and the Double-Shot ensures that you'll forever see the characters
-
@orangelightsabr thanks! Customized it myself actually :) used keys from a few 1-color sets bought online

Here's my Poker 2 :D

0.1 + 0.2 == 0.3

@DarekGreenly, I love it -
@abchin between that and the console in your browser of choice are the best options for interacting with js quickly and simply
-
@abchin that was using the Node.js REPL that's built in to Node.
The terminal was in iterm on a Mac but you can get to this REPL by installing Node and typing node in your terminal of choice. -
@apisarenco oops, I've been using octal all along :)
-
Thanks for explaining everyone!
Now the question is... Does anyone know why this exists within Javascript? Not sure about you, but I don't convert things to octal... Ever. -
@MiracleMikuru between there and /r/mechmarket... I'll be broke by Monday
