@irene it'd just be cool to add that feature.
-
@irene tragedy strikes
-
@Alice what does? I wish replies would be connected to the og comments. Is this app open source?
-
@endor I have been a fan of Peterson in the past. I used to watch him around the 2016 election because I was defacto interested in politics and the left was a shit show, I haven't watched him much since. But this is great, I always forget how nice it is to listen to him.
He has this way of framing multiple levels of existential issues in a way that is inspiringly clear, so that, in the same way an athlete makes a sport look easy, he makes life sound easy despite his recognition that life is unsure, unfair, and hard. Maybe not that he makes it sound easy, but simple, he trims away the emotional baggage we bring with us when we face problems, and looks at them in a way that is humanely logical. And he's so fluent in his own thoughts it must be horrendously frustrating to someone who argues with him. -
@endor does he talk about this? I thought the media forces him to only really talk about women so he seems misogynistic and they can lie and say he is.
-
@Alice no yeah, that's fair and I realize that. I also realized by the end of this that I'm just mad at one specific person and was taking my frustrations out generally.
-
He's a contrarian, he doesn't care that I use a certain text editor, he just wants to talk about the one he's using. I know a lot of people are like him, so it doesn't usually bother me because there IS a lot of ambiguity about certain tools and which are best, but me using the space on my screen is so fucking nit picky, and I have a reason that satisfies me, so I'm just done.
Use what tech you want, enjoy everything that works for you, holy shit, and vent when you need to because I feel amazing now. Damn. -
He's the guy who absolutely indentifies with his tech as a source of validation for his intellect, that he'd be so smart to use the best tool or the most obscure package. So it's odd for him to shit on me when I prefer boxier displays because you'd think he'd appreciate because that's classic and he's one of those Thinkpad sheep (who talks about how great their modularity is but buys a new computer every year). Holy fuck I'm so mad now. This started light hearted but now I'm mad. And off track.
-
I'm mainly complaining about this because I don't give a shit which text editor you use, what distro you have installed, or whether you use Linux, if you love Python or think it's for normies, I literally don't care because there's so many reasons to love and hate all these technologies that I see each for what purpose they serve me when I need them I don't want to fucking identify with them. But this guy sees all the ambiguity, all the good and the bad, and takes every opportunity to play contrarian to seem intelligent, which became so apparent to me after this.
-
Most people don't care, I realize I sound insane, but a classmate constantly shits on me for this which I also wouldn't care about if he weren't one of those "the tools make the dev" kind of person, constantly talking about how much he loves Vim and some new package, and shitting on me for using Emacs, etc. so I KNOW he's genuinely judging me for it.

But really, don't get to the point you NEED coffee, drinking it after around 4pm is HORRIBLE for your health only because, while you often can still get to sleep, the caffeine in your system prevents your brain from creating restorative sleep. The end result is you need more caffeine the next day. If you want something other than coffee to raise your blood pressure, look at the research on the effect of getting 6 hours of sleep a night, and then fondly remember the all nighters you've pulled trying to finish a feature, studying for a test in school, etc.

Welcome to the family, we're all addicts here
-
@colaguy such a wholesome corner of the internet for an app founded on complaining
-
Oh good God this is great
-
Also your boss is an ass. Don't evaluate yourself by how many lines you write. You'll feel like you have to write garbage code to get respect. It's one thing if you haven't written code all week, but it's been studied that the avg number of lines of code written by a developer is 7 lines per day which sounds about right to me because most of the time my changes are wrong and I have to undo them and etc.
-
Bruh. A few weeks ago I had to merge master into a new-feature branch on an 11mb project. By day 3 I realized there's a reason I do not own guns.
-
Also want to mention, the dude is in an intro to Computer Science course and thinks that gives him the cred to say he knows software. Believe me when i say i almost flipped a table when he went on with, "linux has as many bugs as Windows but there aren't enough users to find them."
-
I know you won't say the company. But I'm sure that makes you appreciate your current employer. Like, damn, that sounds horrible. My first internship was so laid back, it led to them hiring me and I love my job now. My only qualm is I don't like the town and want to live somewhere bigger.
-
@VaderNT I did not know that about the commodore. I'll wikipedia that later. I mean in terms of functional languages it's very useful and simple, and I believe because it's more than just a functional language it has an avenue to make a comeback. That's my thought process.
-
@jonhyfun parenscript, more like.
-
I microdosed LSD and drank a pot of coffee today, I also thought I was going to die
-
Do you buy them specifically for that? that'd be a little odd. I eat coffee beans if I have some in front of me, but it's rare.
-
Don't even get me started on their nightmare-induced "premium" space-grey iMac. That shit is a pressure-cooker, the amount of hardware they pack into such a tiny space with ONLY TWO MACBOOK-SIZED FANS, it's going to hit the same heating issues (likely worse) that ruined the bullet-shell Mac Pro re-design, despite their "innovative cooling design" that was supposed to send a column of air through the whole system but couldn't cool a GPU enough to render a webpage.
It's absurd they keep trying to push the literal limits of physics, just to sell an appealing product.
This has turned into me losing my mind, maybe I do hate Apple. The only real reason I still have a Mac is for Final Cut Pro. It's actually great! It's why a lot of creative-types use Macs. Even some Linux users who need more than KdenLive can offer get a Mac on the side for what they call "FinalCut OS." -
@theuser iSheep is new, I hadn't heard that. It just frustrates me. I'm not their demographic, certainly, because it seems Apple fanatics don't give a shit about even slight customizability––so "iSheep" fits. Their UI is incredibly bolted down, and it's insane how they've managed to make their top-of-the-line stuff both proprietary and fragmented.
i.e. USB C everything, except the i-devices? and now for the sake of marketing appeal, they've shrunken the laptops by breaking their keyboard design (twice) and soldering EVERYTHING to the motherboard. If you enjoy the new butterfly keys then you're in denial. And more importantly if your storage fails, instead of popping in a new ssd you're relegated to buying a WHOLE NEW MOTHERBOARD! How the fuck does that make sense?? -
SOOorry for the many typos in that second-to-last paragraph that made it almost unreadable. I'm a plebian and typed this on my Nexus 6 so naturally it didn't come out quite right.
-
How long have you been interested in CS?
-
Annoying as hell, did you end up taking anything at all??
-
Me too, VS Code is phenomenal! It's built with the same electron framework as Atom IDE, but it has a much better plugin community. I'm in love with it, and it's still open source so I don't even have to feel like a hypocrite.
-
Oh God, Mr Robot has taken over my life lately. Also Silicon Valley. House of Cards is phenomenal as well. I feel like I'll regret not taking advantage of the classes I'm in now, so I try to focus on school as much as I can, but Mr Robot is so ridiculously good.
-
@anyhus I have my Bernie sticker on mine too! Except I put an apple sticker over the Bernie sticker. I'm garbage.
