-During the brief moment stack overflow was down today-
Boss: “can you look up how to do this?
Me: “stack overflow is down”
Boss: “well shit I guess you can go home”6 -
Why THE FUCK would anyone make a totally free (in the sense of price; gratuit) software project, and then not make it open-source?
What is the benefit of stifling the development of your own project when you have no monetary gain from doing so?14 -
How to deal with merge-conflicts:
1. You don't
2. Just clone the whole repo anew again and start over dude -
Too much noise in my workplace, can't focus on my code,
bought 300 bucks noise cancelling headphones,
best money i've spent19 -
• I listen to music
• I eat/drink something
• I go to the toilet and think about unrelated stuff (which might actually provide a solution)
• I go to sleep
I try the top one first, and if it doesn't work, the next one, and so on, until I am done with the last one. -
Microsft (before Win 8 ): we have to fix the blue screen of death! People are pissed off seeing it appear again and again.
Windows: We will do something
*In its remastered blue screen - adds a sad face emoji, changes the shade of blue, and inserts a QRCode for the user to play with in the meantime*
Microsoft ( after win 8) :Good Job Team, it looks great now, people are gonna love it, especially the QRCode feature!5 -
I think their should be like tests or any kind of competition on coding kind of thing in devrant.
Or tips related to coding no matter any language most common mistakes etc. That's my idea tho😅😅😅
What u guys say about this?? -
For persistence, either credentials or data, is there any best practice that prefer DATABASES over FILES? Files such as JSON or txt or whatever...
Do dbs offer better perfomance or security?💾5 -
So there is a 50/50 chance I am getting flamed af tomorrow during code review because of my branching/merging actions on thursday and friday... Merge conflicts... We all love them...3

Wrote a python script to fetch details of amazon products to monitor price differences.
The script is only 50 lines, which is why I love python!8 -
I LOVE NODEJS

I really hate it when I try to be careful with disclosing information of my employer in a rant on Reddit but the CTO who fires me go there and replies in full detail in an attempt to shame you. http://archive.is/sfP00
Because I have bigger balls (or a small brain, depending how you see it) I'll leave the post on but with my response to his comment on my thread as anybody may dig my Reddit account before hiring me for a job.
And yes, he is the same guy I refer in this past rant https://devrant.com/rants/1089376/...
It fucking sucks that the CTO will sleep safe and sound and I can't do much than looking for another job and contribute to FLOSS projects while I build new stuff to improve my skills all this while money is running out. I'm glad I'm living with my parents after this shit hit the fan, less stuff to worry about, but this is not life.13 -
Sublime Text could've became the greatest and fastest code editor of all time if it was supported with good extensions. Now we're left with electron based code editors that are slow with big projects.6

I have to say, Kotlin is getting interesting now. At first i was like "WTF is this shit", but now im like "TF, did i just create a data class with 2 lines of code as opposed to the 14 i would have using JAVA? TF you've been Kotlin?"

What book/video/resource do you know that explains complex stuff in a simple and fun way?
I recently found "Carfting Interpreters" by Bob Nystrom. It explains how to create a new scripting langauge from scratch, It teaches you a lot about interpreters and compilers and virtual machines. And it's free!

I need help, I have a very small attention span and motivation in general, I only do stuff when under pressure. Does anyone have any tangible suggestion on how to improve that, generally but even more so in coding, I'm at the beginning still but I do have a learning appetite but I just can't get myself to do shit!
Share some of that super motivation and learning tips!
Thx!18 -
Can't decide if I should buy a Macbook Pro or a fucking car. Both would improve my productivity in different ways. What do you suggest?26
