Yes! To have a healthy family. ❤️ Usually taken for granted.
-
@sheepz haha, I'm waiting for the same! I do a lot of development locally so I'm able to get away with programming without needing internet.
-
#1 but by hiking, biking, and walking everywhere since I try to travel and do nature-things every weekend. I hate the gym and I don't understand how to lift weights properly.
-
Why not just ask the teacher why they wrote it this way? Why automatically question their competence as a teacher and quit?
-
@fsck-mount I hear what you're saying. I actually have a hard time making a proper rant here because I've developed so much patience but I have had moments at the workplace where my eyes roll.
However, this community is about ranting with some anonymity to fellow devs/folks who we don't necessarily work with. I say let others rant without discouragements. :) -
Hmm, being a dev has made me loads more patient than the average bear.
-
@ausername 60 GB?! 😆
-
@arcsaber Maybe grab them a cup of coffee? ;)
-
Oh, come on! That joke still kills!
-
@xecute haha, it’s real.
-
Been there. Done that. 🤣
Hugs. 🤗
Have beer. 🍻 -
It's more cringy when new-ish devs make that mistake.
-
@spongessuck Haha, well, it's the truth. I also don't code in a dark room. 😛
-
Non-alcoholic beer and cherry tomatoes.
-
Just a bit of tuberculosis. No big deal. 😛

There's definitely sexism in computer science but there's sexism in everything, unfortunately. I think it's very cool she codes but more and more people are becoming programmers (good and bad ones like any other field) these days, which is actually amazing.
-
@TheOct0 Very cool experience! Minecraft modding is the coolest way to get into programming! I use that for some of my classes.
-
@Cyanide Haha! I am? :p
-
@SauceBoss Yes, I've taken on some contract work as the sole developer. Though, I always bounce ideas around with dev friends and I have mentors or others I admire who I try to meet regularly to talk with and learn from.
-
@bigus-dickus There could have totally been a bear. I hung out with a crane for a few.
-
@electrineer haha, thanks ;)
-
I'm sorry that this was your experience. People can be so mean sometimes. *hugs*
-
@SauceBoss Haha, I have a few unfinished projects too. :p
I taught college for a year and high school for a few years. I'm a fan of CS education and I would have kept teaching but moved out of Los Angeles and accepted a job as a backend dev in Berlin.
What about you? What's your experience like? -
@TheOct0 I've professionally worked as a developer for six years. I graduated with my MS in CS three years ago. What's your experience like?
-
@SauceBoss You should totally get a hammock then!
I'm always moving about and working on some project! I'm sure you can relate a bit. Here, I was grading student projects. I had just finished teaching a java class at a college and decided to hit the road after finals. -
@SauceBoss I highly recommend programming in a hammock! It's good on the back, especially with a pillow for neck support. ;)
Also, I don't personally own a hammock or have a porch. This was while I was on a roadtrip. I was staying in a hostel in Sacramento, California. The hostel was in this beautiful old mansion in downtown. -
@TheOct0 Haha! That's funny. :3 You seem like you'd be a nice colleague though. ^_^
-
@TheOct0 I miss being a student! I miss having students too.
I like working with female devs too. I especially like the tendency for female devs to be warmly collaborative and kindly suggestive on projects. Otherwise, on other teams, there's usually a bit of aggressively competitive (dare I say arrogant?) lone-wolf types that could not be bothered about anything. Do you know what I'm talking about?
I actually tend to gravitate towards nice forward-thinking older male devs who have been around since Fortran, who got their degrees in applied math, before computer science was a thing. So cool! -
@TheOct0 Thank you for your encouragement and positivity! ^_^
Currently, I am a java backend dev for a B2B platform for commodities.
What about you? -
That's a good size whiteboard! I love home whiteboards! 😍
I had one next to my home setup too.
