You know it's all good and well but compiling and building opensource software is like falling down a stairway and getting fucked by dependencies and quirky configurations on each step.
Forever...Down one step and down again.1 -
I'm excited about flutter, looks like it will make cross platform mobile dev more fun.
Also dx12 rtx real time raytracing. It would be cool to work on it at work. We do animations for short movies at work and render times are huge now.
I'm kinda suspicious for both though. Couldn't check it out yet.1 -
So we don't wanna make an AR game, but management wants one. I don't really like anything AR offers. It's kinda lame.
Do you have inspirations or game suggestions that would cheer me up?3 -
Psst, hey .
When you copy that shitty line 8 times, you will end up with nasty bugs later cause the shit will look the same and you won't understand they're getting values from the same variable.
Don't. -
!rant question:
How does military level security can be achieved in a software company?
Do we really need two computers for each dev, one local and one for using internet? Is there any standard on setting up an infrastructure like that? Point me if you have any info please.4 -
Waiting for a job interview to happen for the last hour. After a long week and day, stuck in the traffic getting here, paid unnecessary money to the taxi. Thinking about leaving the company without doing the interview for the last 15 minutes. Fuck job interviews anyway.4

I made a game. By myself. Took me six months. I struggled to complete it. It was not a good game. I was nearly depressed at the end of the project. But I'm proud I was able to finish it and published it. It made me friends in the industry and it got me my first job. So yeah it was my most successfull project. 😊14

Eveeytime we go to my uncle's house he would get a game for me. Then I learned cd .. back and forth, dir format. I try to do the same for my nephew but he knows more about new games and better than me in pubg. I didn't loose my noob spirit. -
For a long time, I wanted to be a part of open source communities. I've been a dev for 6 years now.
I have the skills needed to help out but usually I'm fairly unexperienced on working with big teams, code reviews, and build-test systems they often use. So I'm scared as hell to even begin with. I feel unsecure to reach out and ask for helping or send a basic fix / pull-request.
What are your suggestions, how did you start working on open source projects?

If you have to interview someone for a position not directly related to your position(example: you're backend dev he/she is gamedev) , and he/she has more experience than you. What are the things you should consider? How you would approach the situation?

I had a project where I completely suprised the client and the company within the beginning. It was silky smooth, working on multiplatform ios android, standalone. I wrote the most complex shader I ever made. Everything was great and I even got a bonus for the project.
Then one day. Videos started to stutter. Not playing, completely black on some cases and some devices.
I started to think about reasons. I tried every solution I come up with. No success.
Updated all the codecs, middleware still nothing. Tried to solve the problem for a week. It was a total diaaster and I even thought I a dont deserve to be a developer.
We encoded the videos a few times. Decided to export the original video again, boom! It worked. Theres no particular reason why it worked. But it worked. I guess I am a good developer. Not the best but, eh. -
So any unity dev has advice, documents, tutorial suggestions on creating resuable libraries, packages?
I'm working on a library for the company, and want people to use it as easy and comfortable as possible.4 -
A day before the deadline.
Project manager decides that we are ready to publish the same app with the iPad version too. Without asking dev team.
+Yep, sure. What could go wrong?
I'll keep you posted.2 -
