I think CS education is getting weaker and weaker every year.
Since they released CS GO, CS seems to be overtaken by little cry kiddies who put out insults like an AK on speed.
I wish CS education was like when CS 1.6 came out.
Those were great years to learn gungames on The Simpsons maps and you were actually able to land headshots by skill and not just utter luck.19 -

Loving the community here I wish more people I know personally knew about DevRant hence why I just bought myself a stress ball. Hoping that someone at work might notice it!5 -
And here I was thinking I would finally give in and buy a Macbook Pro... Anyone got recommendations? Apple messed up for us developers...11

Went to a dev group meet up today. I can honestly say devs are the best kind of people around!
Any FCC people around?2 -
My boss will retire next year. He made a countdown in his personal website. http://www.paolofasser.it/q/1

Honestly if the StackOverflow community was set on fire and I had a huge tank of water
People in Africa wouldn't die from thrist anymore.14 -
So, there is this guy whose arguments on "How Apple is bad" are
1) "while copying files in Finder, you don't see a speed graph (like in Windows)"
2) "MacBooks don't have a Touchscreen"
3) "it's slow"
4) "you can't play games (like GTA V)"
5) "having app menus always on the top of the screen instead of in every window makes no sense"
Arguments on "why Linux is bad":
1) "it's ugly"
2) no gaming (same as point 4 above)
3)... And other biased irrelevant shit
Yet his amazing old Windows 10 computer with the most recent Insider build has only a 65% chance of booting on the first attempt. Almost nothing works properly on his hardware yet he always blames something unrelated to him.
Recently I was having trouble with the workplace wifi (for few minutes I wasn't having full speed like he on the other side of the room had), and his reaction "aha, it's your macOS, never working".
Like wtf. I don't hate Windows or I don't love Linux, but I night hate him for being an arrogant cunt and I want to punch his face.8 -
I have a feature suggestion for devrant: some kind of polling system.
This idea came into my mind with the survey a few days ago.
Since almost all of us are devs, aspiring or experienced, we can expect (somewhat) professional opinions, e.g. on how to tackle a specific problem.
Maybe it's even possible to make this a paid service somehow. I thought about this:
Open a poll for all registered users: $0
Add requirements for a user to have to be able to vote on the poll: +0.99$ each:
- has ranted at least X times
- has at least X ++s
- has a StackOverflow account connected
...
This way, the OP can narrow down the target audience to a specific group.
Maybe...? I don't know if something like this already exists somewhere else.3 -
Art director said: "Please make everything smaller?"
Developer: "Everything?"
Art Director: "Yes everything. Font size, panel height, panel width, input height and width, photos, headers, paragraphs, everything"
Developer: "ctrl + '-' will that work?"10
