We’ve been discussing it, from a lot of angles. We mixed in the domain constraints for this feature and how to build it. I’ve been at the drawing board, and at the keyboard trying to get it into code. FINALLY I have something to show for the hard work, a working proof of concept. It felt good. There are a lot of things still left to polish, but we have most of the building blocks. If that ain’t the best feeling and the reason to work in this field. Left the job yesterday with the feeling that I’ve accomplished something, that’s not often since it’s otherwise mostly meetings and boring code reviews. Satisfaction.

They have known for a time I would start, but I still haven't got access to the repos yet. Why is it so often like this? Now I'm just an expensive spectator.

I don't want new features or updates anymore. Almost every OS gets bloated with new features I don't want, while also breaking backwards compatibility and a working setup.
Phone? Apps not compatible anymore since update or just disappearing from the phone.
Computer? Often unstable updates, and since this has happened many times before I try to delay updates as long as possible but then caves in from the annoying update notifications.
Would love to get security updates, but come on, stop it with the bloat apps. Let me just uninstall the features I don't want and let me opt in instead. Make it possible to build extensions and plugins to customize behaviour. Why does software have to spoil like this?

Revisiting Python again and so far it's very enjoyable. It brings back memories on how excited I was when I started to grasp certain concepts within programming. Feel like it's really easy to actually accomplish things in that language. It also makes me realize I have learnt a lot on my journey because I felt that I understand what I'm doing.

Last two weeks on assignment. Agreed on no more releases. What am I doing? Only releases. Stressful? Yes. Will things be on fire when I actually leave? Probably. Did I want this? No.

iOS Storyboards in Xcode feels like Dreamveawer. This Autolayout and Safe Area shit doesn't make any sense. As for Xcode itself it's a monstrosity, looking forward to purging that and reclaim my disk space.

Added some features to an internal app used by finance. Tester found some bugs, but most of them were due to old code. Tried fixing them, found some more serious bugs that could have a large economic impact. Rewrote the service, squashed all the bugs we found and reduced code by roughly 50%. Felt good.

When I thought I had bricked my HTC Hero while trying to load a custom ROM and it just didn't boot. I had a real eureka-moment late that night when I understood the whole process and successfully flashed it in a non standard way to get it back working.

I haven't thought about this for a while and it wasn't really dev-related either more than problem solving. That moment was also realisation that I both love and hate technology.

People not respecting headphones and while standing right next to you either waving, tapping on your shoulder or, the worst, just waiting for you to take them off.

Well, the solution works on the co-workers machine. Checked out the same branch on mine and it doesn't work. Tried restarting the computer, and now the application doesn't start at all. On top of that hassle I have to deal with creating tickets for something that in the end took three minutes to fix, just to verify a change in our test environment. That email-communication took all week.

How do you guys keep your calm? Because I'm almost bursting from this, it's so frustrating.

Fed up with f@_#-$&@_ Microsoft bullshit, computer refused to install IIS without a reboot first. Rebooted, got bluescreen with some error like APC_Index mismatch since it was hooked up to an external monitor (this has happened before, but only when booting into Windows, not Ubuntu), god knows why now since it was hooked up to same monitor before reboot and worked just fine. All this because some stupid school related task requires Visual Studio and a web project-solution that takes ages to run/debug which I would rather build and devug through attaching remote debugger to the running IIS-process. Instead I get into a boot-loop when the screen is connected, and when I connect the screen after a normal boot it restarts itself. Why is it always like this? Most of the time is spent just to setup the environment or making Windows work. F#&#_ this and the assignment, goodnight.

Young aspiring dev asking for career advice here. I have to choose between two job offers:

1. The first for a larger company that mainly works with a top-tier company's solutions.
2. The other for a smaller company where I have more freedom to choose a stack.

I'm not really straight out from university. I'm wondering about what would be the most developing for me personally and professionally. Does the size of the company matter? I work hard and like to be rewarded for hard work, where is that more likely to happen? Should I choose from what stacks I prefer? Salary?

Do you fellow devs have any other input or advice? Perhaps guidance on other questions I should ask myself?

Thought I would only do frontend-stuff when I started working. Boy I was wrong. I thought it would be easy coding in a real company and not just in schoolprojects, boy I was way out in the blue. But when your code works and is actually used by people, I never could've imagined that would feel so good!

Since there has been a lot of talk about fixing printers lately.. Who creates them and their internal software/drivers!?
