Had my first programming encounter when I was 12 at school with Turbo Pascal and VB, I was the best in my class but didn't really got struck by it.
It wasn't until I was 19 that I discovered Arduino and Processing, started learning C++ and Java and decided to switch from Electronic Engineering to Computer Engineering.
Since I was into music and used to make guitar pedals, the first things I programmed were a bunch of audio effects with Pure Data and some controllers with Arduino since I wanted to make a digital pedal with a raspberry, but as usual I never completed it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ -
I don't consider myself good at all, but I improved a lot with coding competitions, not in programming itself but in problem solving definitely.
Sometimes the best way to improve is to get out of the comfort zone and try something you don't know how to do at the very moment. You'll learn a lot, and learning what you need at the exact time that you need it is way more effective than studying random things from a book for an exam. -
Just started watching mr Robot, not liking that much to be honest, but still decided to give it a try. Then mr robot takes out the piece of paper with a wrong IP address on and I'm like =_= "is this for real or are they joking with me"?13

Just realized I don't have a code style. In python at least I stick to what flake8 tells me, but with C++ I change my style every project I work with to adapt to their existing code base, and then I keep that style untill the next project.
Current project is an ns-3 module, and their code style is quite horrible but I'm already making it a part of me.1 -
I work in a repair shop, I have 300+ sticks of RAM laying around, from DDR to DDR3 (DDR3 of 4+ GB and DDR4 are either good for replacement on new computers or are sold immediately so don't count them as laying).
Also I have 200+ hard drives, IDE, SATA, SAS, 2.5, 3.5, 20 GB to 1 TB. Lots of them.
What can I do with all this crap? Not enough matching CPU and MB to make a working system (unless I make a very obsolete one but there's no point in doing so). I also am using single hard drives for backups (only 500+ GB SATA-3 though) so I'm mostly concerned with all that old ram. What can I do with them??8 -
Am I the only one who feels offended by the stupidity of who feels offended by the term "master" in GitHub?11

Have you heard about the background bug on Android 10? I'm talking about this...
https://xda-developers.com/wallpape...
How the hell does something like that happen?? Who coded that formula without checking it's output boundaries?6 -
New year, new Google HashCode!!!
I need a new stupid name for my team, last year "SicroMoft" by @Fast-Nop was great, but this time I need something even better (or worse)
Also, who else is participating?6 -
On the top of a mountain, while skiing, -6 °C, no gloves, on my phone.
I use a live wallpaper I made with Processing and it uses gps location and forecast datas to change the background image according to the environment and climate. It sucks and drains battery like a bitch, and as soon as I got the top of the mountain it fucked up everything, home screen froze and camera wouldn't open.
So guess what, it was debug time. Hands dead cold and APDE with no autocomplete on a smartphone keyboard. The agony.
My gf yelled at me and after 10 minutes I switched to a static wallpaper, uninstalled that one and never touched it again since then2 -
A person just bought a 3000€ workstation and asked me to install cracked versions of Office, AutoCAD, full Adobe suite and Rhino with plugins. And he's going to use them at work to make money.
So, since I have to, I installed 2-3 years old versions of each, in English (he only knows Italian) and blocked all the connections so he can't receive any update/fix or use web related functionalities. I also disabled all autostarting components and contextual menu / OS integrations (although this can be seen as a plus).
When he's calling me asking to "fix" things, I will simply say "sorry, it's the only way for the crack to work, if you want everything you'd better pay for a license or else go open source".
Why can't people understand the value of the complex software they use? Just because it's not a material thing doesn't mean it's not a steal42 -
Upgrading RAM in a customer's laptop, pretty easy, right?
Well not in the Asus VivoBook Max. You have to disassemble everything just to get to the slot under the motherboard because it was too hard to put a fucking hole in the bottom for that. 20 minutes to complete the job and you know what? I also managed to break a flex cable so now I have to fix that or buy a replacement for the whole keyboard/mousepad assembly.

Today my sister told me "bro, I want you to teach me how to program". My gf told me the same some months ago
So proud of my girls 😍11 -
I give math lessons to high school people in my "free" time. One of my guys needs to use calculator to compute sums with 0 and yet he wants to become a programmer 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️3

Today was Mother's Day. Everybody was posting their photos with their mothers, so I had to stay away from social networks for today to not feel sad.
It's been almost a year without mine, really miss her.
I love her, and I never showed her how much. I've not been the best son a mother could have, I'm so sorry for that. She thought me how to be strong, she was the strongest, but I'm feeling so weak now without her.
Please never miss a chance to let your mother know how much you love her, give her a hug whenever you can, talk to her every time you need somebody to talk to, listen to her stories from when she was your age. She's the most precious person you'll ever have in your life. I realized that when it was too late, don't make my mistake.
I miss you mum ❤8 -
I made an infinite canvas whiteboard app specifically designed for quick notes with pen input but now I want to scale it to something bigger: a tool to allow children with DSA to take notes and study better using images, videos, gifs and sound directly into the canvas, right next to their notes.1

Does anybody know a good free software for whiteboarding and quick sketching?
I tried Leonardo and it's actually pretty damn good but is not free at all, tried Mischief and has some really bad performance issues (plus is not maintained anymore), tried Milton but is still immature, anything else (OneNote, Gimp, Krita) is just not what I need.
I want it quick, lightweight and easy to use just like Leonardo, but free.
So much was my disappointment that I decided to create my own sketching software from scratch while studying...2 -
Today I've seen 2 bsod on 2 different ticket machines at my local train station.
I'm late as hell, probably not arriving in time for the exam, but at least I laughed. -
My brother told me a mail just arrived from "America". He said is from "dev something".
I think I know what that is 😍
