@RememberMe it just feels sluggish and old, doesn't feel as speedy and modern compared to other editors.
The only thing I wish vs code had was CPU and RAM utilisation graphs during debugging -
@stop but even running vs2019 feels horrible, I would have thought they would try to keep things up to date but it doesn't feel designed for modern development

@AleCx04 @rooter alright day 1 update, really love the book, only had time to get up to working with char's but it's all super well written and easy to follow.
Keen to get into the more advanced stuff and be out of the basics -
@rooter for sure will post what I think :-)
-
@AleCx04 I might look into it but one of the big draws to C for me was managing memory myself
Plus I love reinventing the wheel but making a square -
@3rdWorldPoison it's super fun to work with. Think of a meld of C# with some of the power you get with C.
Plus it compiles to native C so even better -
@3rdWorldPoison Vala manages memory for you so I'm coming from Java, GML, Vala and now on C, first time I have had to manage my own memory .-.
-
@ajinxs meant can but was being sarcastic
-
Wow I can spell, game engine, not gang engine .-.
-
@ScriptCoded Yeah for my engine, getting SDL2 TTF working is being a major pain
@OmerFlame indeed it is, development is super slow considering I'm learning the language as I go but feel free to have a gander https://github.com/lxmcf/virgil -
@ScriptCoded honestly just working, working on my game engine and getting fun adult stuff done, my fiance and I started building a house so that's taking up most of my spare time.
How about yourself? -
@ScriptCoded yeah mate took a break from programming for a while, been lurking for a while, just got back in the saddle a bit and thought may as well post here and there :-)
-
@neeno even after working on this for so long I still sometimes read it as virgin .-.
-
@AvyChanna I probably will look into cmake at some point
-
@RememberMe If I can work it out, I will gladly right tutorials.
Just sucks when you want to be cross platform and use something lightweight to use for development but everything is designed for 1 platform and using a heavy IDE which you only use 1% of anyway .-. -
@Fast-Nop i know right!
I prefer meson bit that's just a personal preference thing, everything I see out there is either 'use windows and visual studio' or 'use code::lite!'
What about us who don't use an IDE? -
@AlgoRythm yeah probably lol. Turns out building a house and having a full time job means you have no time to work on things
-
28th and I don't even post anymore... I'll take that!
-
@IntrusionCM all references are correct unfortunately, seems it may be an SDL2 issue, might see if I can perform the same function using C rather than Vala incase it could be an issue with the transpile of Vala to C .-.
-
@netikras nope for sure have all libraries and its not RAM related, it's so bizarre, the function exists and should output the data, can assign a variable to the required data structure but as soon as I try to populate data.... Boom gone
-
@Bybit260 ... I'm kind of impressed
-
if (value > 255){
value = 255;

@SomeNone awesome glad to hear, browser speed isn't super important to me tbh, as long as I can watch a video in picture in picture and run a basic code editor I'm good
-
@SomeNone glad to hear, have you run into any issues and how well does it perform with a desktop environment?
I'm looking at running a barebones debian or Fedora with gnome considering elementary OS isn't available for ARM -
@theKarlisK I'm after something ARM based specifically so I can start working on integrating my projects to ARM desktop Linux and start working on apps for the pinephone once I can get my hands on one.
A second hand x86 would be my last resort considering I have a perfectly functional MacBook -
@SomeNone I believe you still can, haven't tested myself but do believe it is still there
-
@C0D4 well some models have the root details
-
@C0D4 the dodo hardware isn't that bad, I haven't run into any equipment they have locked down
-
@C0D4 yepppppppppppppp, such secure
