https://learnbchs.org - The web framework consisting of OpenBSD, C, httpd and SQLite.
What do you think? Not sure if I should call C-webdevs insane or genius (maybe both).
I think the code will either end up very secure or with more severe bugs than any PHP website ever had. Please talk me out of trying it.7 -
How am I even supposed to learn securit? I have been playing CTFs for a little over a year now, learned some interesting stuff and had some fun. But I still didn't ever get the feeling that I learned something really valuable.
I just saw this video and I trust LiveOverflow on this but I seriously have no idea how to continue from now on. https://youtube.com/watch/...
I even consider quitting this and instead spend my time improving my programming skills but I would really like to get into the field. Why is this so hard when you can find good info on everything online nowadays?
Thanks for reading my post, maybe I just need to go outside for some time to get improve my mood :)5 -
So I fell for the vim meme some weeks ago and am now very used to it, but I think I'm still less productive than I was before. The problem is that I can't just go back to a bloated IDE.
So now I'm sitting here, unsatisfied with every editor, bothering so much I don't do my work.
I guess I'll just have to configure it more to my needs and learn some more features but still do I kinda regret switching.4 -
Is anyone here using Mastodon or anything else from the Fediverse network?
I really want to change from using twitter to mastodon but I can't find all the security researchers and devs and generally cool people on mastodon.
Who are you guys and gals following? Are you using it exclusively or in addition to twitter?2 -
What is a open source project you can recommended looking at? I would like to go trough a project written in either C or Python to learn more about how bigger projects are managed and get used to understanding someone else's code.
I think those are both very important skills that I lack.
I was maybe thinking about git as I've heard it is well documented, but I'm not sure if it is easy enough to understand for me.2 -
What has happened to the collab feature?
I just came back to DevRant after a rather long time because last time I checked it was just shitty r/ProgrammerHumor memes (it seems to have changed for good now, thank you very much everyone. I guess I will be here more often again) and I can't find the collab tab :( I really enjoyed it, what happened?5 -
I just got a bit into OpenCV and I am completely exited. I built a little ball tracker (Yes I know that the cross is on the other side, it's inverted so the cross is at the same position as the ball in front of the camera) and although it is not the most advanced project I think it's kinda cool.9

Quitting.
If you have any tips on how to get over this point where nothing works and you just want to throw you laptop into the trash can and continue working on the hobby project please write it in the comments.4 -

Of course I want to finish the projects I'm currently working on and maybe start a YouTube channel about my projects.
Yes I know, it's quite a lot to do, but I don't know if I will ever have the chance to do all that things in my free time again. -
I think that was that automated greenhouse thingy.
This is basically a Raspberry Pi with sensors, a fan and a water pump controlling the air circulation and watering of the greenhouse. The data from the sensors gets stored in a database and you can check the temperature & humidity history on a shitty web interface.
This was one of my very first projects and I'm really proud of finishing it although it's really not perfect. When I started it I had never worked with
1) databases
2) sensors on the raspi
3) webinterfaces
before and somehow managed to get it working.4 -
Shit, I missed that I got a thousand ++!
But thank you all so much, I love this community. This is just so amazing.4 -
These moments I'm too dumb to even setup a library or anything. That's just so frustrating! I spent many hours realising OpenCV may not work on my machine6

I know maaannny rants like this exist, but it's just sad that so many devices run 1. windows and 2. an very old version of windows.
This is an info display in school, we managed to reboot it and have seen it's IP. I'm not gonna post it because I don't want to get into trouble. -
Hi guys, I'm back!
I spent some time not using DevRant, I got a new phone and thought it would be better not to install it for some days. I had to do a lot of stuff for school these days and didn't want to geht distracted by amazing devs posting cool rants. So here I am, happy to see you all again. (Or at least your avatars)12 -
I want to get into game dev, but don't know which engine to choose, Unreal or Unity. Both would be free, because Unreal is free for students. I already know C++, but I think it depends more on the API than the language itself. Maybe I would like to create games for Android too.
Which one would you recommend? Any experience?6 -
I have been wondering about this for the whole week, but I don't remember any dev sin... or I don't want to remember it
-
I got ca. 200€ and want to spend them on smth. awesome.
I'm interested in coding, electronic and tech in general.
Do you have any cool ideas / things you have bought that were worth it?17 -
Playing around with a scratch-like "language"
Until I bought that book "make your own neural network" and now they think I'm genius xD -
Well, that was when kindergarden was over, and my parents told me:
U have to go to school now.
And me:
Wuuuuuut???
And one of my friends (hes stoll in my class):
It's OK, in school you only repeat what you have learned in kindergarden
