Currently working on a web platform for a building management company for the last 6 months.

Setup web server, database and developed the whole using laravel and vue.

They are in the testing phase now, so I implemented IPSec so that they can only access it from their office.

Thing is, they don’t have a static IP, so when they had to switch over to a backup connection yesterday, I had to add their new IP in my whitelist.

Today I get and email from their manager, saying that after a discussion he had with his assistant, the web app is not in the “cloud”!!! He got that because I had to “do something” to restore access to it yesterday and because “there isn’t an icon you can double-click” on each employees’ desktop!!!

Don’t even know how to respond to that!!!

15 years ago vs today

So, there are actually people with a BSc in CSc that don't even know how to clear their browser's temporary files and cookies...

When all you want to do is spend your day at the office writing code and people interrupt you every 5 minutes for the most mundane things!

Monday... Message from sysadmin at around 5:00am...

"We finished with the servers upgrade. Everything went as planned. Your call recorder is not recording any calls and your database failed to backup though."

Jeez, thanks man. You sure know how to get me out of bed!

When you write an efficient piece of code and because the legacy database is too slow to return the data, you have to find a way to delay your processing instead of finding a way to speed up the database web service.
