When you walk into such circle-jerk type of situations you basically have 2 options:
1. Try to interfere and explain to people the error of their ways. Inevitably getting “dirty” (reads as “covered in jizz”)
2. Slowly, without making any noise, walk backwards out of the room
Personally like option 2 better, but to each their own... -
I’ve seen that language before, I think it’s R.O.T
(Refactor or Trash)
Fuck that code is ugly -
Also, for clarity. I did a CS degree. Not Quantum mechanics. But for some unknown reason it actually included 2 course on quantum mechanics and special relativity.
Because, ya know. Gotta pay some teachers salary... -
“We use php for our ________”
“Why?”
<Some bad reason>
“Thanks for your time, have a nice day” -
@mjones44 now you got a point there. One of my only reminding uses for in-terminal editors is for editing my .zshrc file. Good point

Me over here using Intellij/webstorm/goland/pycharm...

I also feel that my school was a waste personally.
I went twice as well and got both slips of paper in the end, this is basically what I learned.
First time around I was too young to care. Drank a lot of beer, smoked a LOT of weed, and got 60/70s. Didn’t care.
Second time around I knew it was a waste of my time but also knew I needed the paper. So, while in school I joined a startup accelerator and built a small company...
I learned more in the 12 weeks in the accelerator than I did in the 7 years of post-secondary education.
I also self educated a LOT. Ran through Pluralsight classes like they were going out of style.
Note: I lived in nowhere and needed the piece of paper to ensure that when I moved to a major city I could get my first job and hopefully not be homeless.
It all worked out I guess... -
Everyone is welcome to their own opinion, no matter how incorrect it may be.
The opinion that MGK had a better diss track is one of those opinions.
Let’s look at it objectively, what makes a good diss track?
1. Lyrics: well obviously. And in this I can say that it wasn’t even a contest, Eminem murdered it and MGKs verses were just good for his level of ability.
3. Beat: both has a pretty good beat for a diss record.
2. Did it hurt:
MGK “your old”
Em “you would suck a dick to fucking be me for s second” yes, MGK would...
“My biggest flops are your greatest hits” yup, the greatest album or single that MGK has ever (or will ever) had is a blip on the radar of failure for Eminem.
The truth hurts.
3. Popular opinion: (the least important today) but let’s realize that Killshot is, at the moment of typing this, the #3 hottest song in the world according to the Billboard top 100 charts. A diss track is the just narrowly loosing out to Drake and Eminem waited almost 2 weeks to even launch it as a single that could chart. If thats taking an L then I’d love to see what someone considers winning.
I actually gained respect for MGK for responding. It took guts.
I’m not here to tell anyone what to believe, everyone should have their own opinion...
It just so happens that the opinion that MGK “won” is an entirely garbage opinion. -

@dfox 💯 exactly right
-
@Codex404 gets the point of it. The point isn’t the answer but how it is approached.
It’s fine to ask about work life balance but when it is the first thing an applicant asks then it usually means...
1. They are afraid to work in a startup
2. They just aren’t a fit for one
3. They plan to work their 40 and no more ever for any reason.
- all of which are NOT negative things as a person, but all of which ARE reasons for us not to hire you for this particular job.
I find it funny to see the negative responses. It’s funny because of all the assumptions and circle jerking that come out of it.
In fact, most companies I have interview as have a great work life balance. Very few people working outside of core working hours, lots of perks and flexible schedule. But it’s funny how whenever it is mentioned all of these folks start jumping out of the woodwork saying “I hope startup culture burns” and other childish stuff.
It doesn’t matter what you are like, if you want to work for a large company or a startup, what does matter is that you apply to the right jobs. If you hate startups then don’t apply to them. If you hate large companies then don’t apply to them.
At least most of those people are really transparent about the fact that they aren’t a fit for a fast moving startup. That way we can end the interview soon and not waste any more of our valuable time.
I knew this would cause some outrage, it’s funny how some people will refuse to take advice hahaha -
@-ANGRY-CLIENT- Also, thanks for the props man. I just want to see all you ranters kill all your interviews and take over the world... I mean get good jobs hahaha
-
@-ANGRY-CLIENT- No one is mad at the interviewer, but it looks bad.
Tech is what we do for a living. To me it’s like a carpenter coming to a job site without tools. He may not bring them all to the interview but they have the tools in the truck if they step on a job site. -
@ceee Yeah. For sure.
To be honest, even though the diss wasn’t near Eminem’s level, I do have to respect the guy for firing back.
I don’t imaging he would response after the Killshot diss track, that’s shit was fire.
I hope Em just stays in the both throwing bars at everyone. I am living it!!! -
No.
Your supposed to write code to make sure that the code you are GOING TO WRITE will work properly... -
@JoshBent Yo!
This thread is dope as fuck! -
You make the mistake of assuming I am writing useful code... hahaha
-
@Santaclauze I honestly don’t even mind the kids.
Every form of music devolves with enough time and then becomes something almost unrecognizable.
Rock used to be Led Zeppellin, fleetwood Mac etc. Thy were the radio plays. Then over time it devolved until we had Backstreet boys and NSync. So instead of good singing, great song writing and musical talent we got homogenized singers singing song written by old white men at the record label.
The same is happening to hip hop. It’s essence is dissolving. It used to be about lyrics (well actually it is the five areas of rapping, DJs, Graffitti artists, break dancers and knowledge of self. But let’s not get too deep here). And now it’s about lean and mumbling.
Honestly, there’s nothing wrong with change.
But in the same way that we had to find a new name for the NSyncs and Backstreet boys (pop music was the word chosen) so wish we could find another word for this mumbly, drug addicted music. Maybe pop-rap, but that sounds a little too clean for a bunch of drug addicts.
I propose we just call is garbage. Hahaha
In the spirit of eminem.
🖕🏽🖕🏽🖕🏽tell them to eat a dick .
Respect to the modern rappers who actually hone their craft. Kendrick, Big Sean, J Cole, and many others. -
@Fast-Nop In terms of learning curve I would have to say it’s not too bad.
Of course, that is subjective to the person at hand.
I’ve always been the type to love to learn new languages and frameworks (but always for a defined goal). Every time I try to learn something for fun I don’t usually get it until I build a real project.
However, I also know some very senior devs that are REALLY against learning new things unless they really have to. So for them so would say it would be more difficult.
Really a case by case basis. But overall a I have found it pretty good to learn.
We are using Actix-web as well to implement the Actor Model and the major problem with that is lack of docs and guides. It a bit more of a trial and read the source code type of thing.
Overall, I’d say go for it bud! Learn that rusty shit!
I don’t think you will regret it. I don’t. -
I’m going to rant a little here in the comments of my own rant...
So, something I have noticed is that most people seem to see no difference between the quality of a thing and their personal opinion that thing.
As far as I am concerned a review (from and publication) is about the quality of the thing and not the persons opinion of it. If I want an opinion then I will go to one of the 1000+ meaningless opinions in the black hole of horse shit that is YouTube reaction videos. That’s what used to make these professional publication different from the couple in their apartment recording videos for no one to ever watch.
To illustrate this I will give an example.
Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band by The Beatles
This isn’t an album I play often, it isn’t my favourite Beatles album. I would say I end up listening to it 1-2 times a year and always with some other Beatles fan.
So, from the common opinion about “reviews” I should probably give it a 5/10. It’s playable but that’s about it for me.
But I wouldn’t do that. You know why? Because I’m not a fucking moron!
I can recognize that, even with my general apathy for it, it is one of the greatest masterpieces in that form of music. It takes so many different forms of music and does them in a flawless manner. I cannot image a way to perfect the sounds they made more. Even if those sounds don’t necessarily appeal to me.
Quality is about choosing a field and doing everything possible to perfect that field. Quality isn’t about making a hit. It isn’t about staying with trends. It’s about fucking quality.
This isn’t directly related to Eminem or even rap. It’s related to the masses of self possessed people who cannot detach their opinion from the judgment of quality.
The fact is, I wouldn’t go and rate chick flicks, because I think they are garbage. I have no idea what makes a quality chick flick, so I will leave that review to those who do understand it. -
@crapped I’m from Newfoundland Canada. With all the snow and salt on the roads...
If you find a car without rust on it then it is either never driven or a summer car. Haha -
@Fast-Nop Great question.
So, a bit of background. I haven’t worked with C or C++ since university. And to be honest, I was way more a fan of Java at that time. Basically, I don’t think I would take a job that was largely C++ or C based.
With that said, Rust is WAY better.
You are very right to say the compiler is on another level. Often time the compiler will say...
“You did X, did you mean to do Y?”
Then I do Y and the damn thing works!
I’m sitting there thinking... does this compiler need me? Should I have a job? Haha
But seriously, it’s much friendlier, but still super safe. There is NO bending of the rules in rust, let alone breaking rules. You either do things correctly or it screams (useful things) in your terminal.
Now, it isn’t without its faults. For example, it a little bit slow to compile. But you can then all I guess haha. -
@Mathew-77 Honeslty, I don’t think even one of them will respond in any meaningful way.
Em is on such a higher level than these clowns that it would be like a child trying to attack an adult. They may talk big around the other kids but they know that if the piss off the adult enough the will crush their windpipe with one hand.
With that said, I’d love to see it happen. I mean, Em and 50 essentially destroyed the career of Ja Rule when he was the biggest shit on earth. Just imaging what he would to to some bumbly, mumble, drug-addicted, face tattoo having, worthless rapper.
I’d watch that! -
@ceee The album is fire from front to back. This album has made my month!
-
@Ryhazerus Nah man.
Your just excited enough! -
@jonii <— this guy gets it.
“I was waiting for it to turn to 4:20” -
@rant1ng Not in this smallish coffee shop there wasn’t.
Just had to put up with it -
@spongessuck TBH, he wasn’t actually violent or anything.
He was saying these things at the level you would if you were on the phone in a public place.
Most minimum wage employees wouldn’t mess with that type of crazy unless they had to. And I don’t blame them.
After living in a major city for a while it’s just something I have come to terms with... -
@growling because saying something means more face to face interaction with sick people.
It’s wasn’t worth it for me to remain in that coffee shop another moment -
@JackToolsNet The best life advice, as in business, is never easy.
If it was easy then every dumbass would be doing it...
To quote Ray Dalio from his book Principles...
“Nothing is more important or more difficult then to get the culture and people right.”
