So I just interviewed this guy for admission into our bootcamp and because he has raised some red flags before, I asked him to just write a factorial function and he chose HTML to do it. I told him he can certainly try thinking that maybe he doesn't know that whatever you write inside script tag is actually JavaScript. He went on to do this. What bothers me is he have a computer science diploma.
Till now I have just heard of these people but always taught those are just marketing or some person who think that just because they here HTML with some other programming language. BUT THIS IS SOME NEXT LEVEL SHIT.78 -
So my data structure's exam's result came and i got scored 57.5 out of 80. My classmates who barely know anything about C scored way more than me. I am so embarrassed at myself but i gave the right answers in exam. My score in the exams before was 39/40 and 38.5/40. All my hardwork failed because it was a so called THEORY exam where there was only 2 small questions of writing algos but all others were just like "describe pre-order traversal of a binary tree" or "write the difference between a tree and a graph?define adjacent node, path and complete graph"...
When will this fuckery end?2 -
The rants I read here make me want to be a better developer. I started writing tests, linting code and ensuring 'quality code' because of the devrant community. Being a self taught developer, you never really have anyone to thank. But today I would like to appriciate you all for the rants, comments and advice that make us developers become better at our craft.2

Nah.. I still got to resolve this issue.5 -
Buy it, use it, break it, fix it
Trash it, change it, mail - upgrade it
Charge it, point it, zoom it, press it
Snap it, work it, quick - erase it
Write it, cut it, paste it, save it
Load it, check it, quick - rewrite it
Plug it, play it, burn it, rip it
Drag and drop it, zip - unzip it
Lock it, fill it, call it, find it
View it, code it, jam - unlock it
Surf it, scroll it, pause it, click it
Cross it, crack it, switch - update it
Name it, rate it, tune it, print it
Scan it, send it, fax - rename it
Touch it, bring it, pay it, watch it
Turn it, leave it, start - format it10 -
*Me trying to flirt with her*
Me: "Programming turns me 1."
She: "JavaScript turns me true."
Guess who spent whole day searching some good js tutorials on web today ??6 -
She: "I am not getting anything out of these classes!!"
Me: "Try making some Objects first"
*Awkward silence*8 -
Best:
My first 3D engine with a really hacky physics implementation made textured spheres bounce off of each other. Biggest satisfaction ive ever had. -
A customer called me in a stressed out state and asked me if I could get it up.
I kept my composure but politely told her to give me a little bit more to work with..5 -
My resolution for this year:
- learn PHP
- advance at JavaScript and figure out what's so cool about react.js
- be a pro with SQL and learn PostgreSQL
- build couple cool hardware projects with Raspberry Pi and Arduino based on C.5 -
Once I've worked in a start-up located in an engineering university "incubator", so we had a lot of engineer-to-be students applying for part-time jobs.
One of these kids was hired by my boss who labeled him "highly technical, very skilled in IT".
One day, while very busy with my own upcoming release, I had to help him finding a bug in his (horrible) code.
Me: Oh, that's easy, you need to load the image from the parent directory
Guy: ...
Me: You know how to do this, right? You're 1 exam away from being a computer engineer
Guy: ...
Me: Ok, ok, don't worry. Just type "../" right before the path
The guy starts typing, literally, "dotdotslash" into the path.
I immediately stopped him, almost crying. Then, I asked him to go for a walk.
"Don't mind about your bug, I'll take care"3 -
Source code works on my local machine, even when I present it to the relevant users; no body panics its all part of the plan. Place it on the server and it does not work AND EVERYONE LOSES THEIR MIND!1
-
"So you need access to the test server?"
Me:"Yes"
"Please fill these 800000000 forms, sign here, get your blood sample, your ID ,your right kidney, letter of approval from your boss,...."
Fuuuuuuuck!!!! I just want to change only 3 lines of code!!!!!!5 -
the best way to learn programming is not by just reading books and coding basic examples. it is to take up a project which seems impossible and start doing it piece by piece, with the help of Google and stack overflow14

This is one of my favorite quotes when it comes to programming. So many developer are too eager to start coding instead of spending a bit more time on thinking.11
