So I just got one of those pop ups saying YOUR COMPUTER HAS BEEN HACKED.
I decided to call the number, while firing up a Linux virtual machine, running Linux Mint. I customized the home button to look like the Windows start menu logo, and proceeded to let that scammer connect to it.
He was so confused, considering the script he was reading off of was meant for windows. He opened up terminal, and started typing in "tree" and told me that's how many viruses I have.

Not sure what Linux Desktop to use? Use this handy guide:
- GNOME: when you want no tray icons, themes that break every minor GTK release, and extensions for basic features (that are buggy.)
- KDE: pretty go-Segmentation Fault
- DWM/Awesome/i3/etc.: when you feel like the time you spent learning Vim wasn't wasteful enough
- XFCE: when you want one update per decade and poor Systemd support.
- LXQt: the biggest positive is that it doesn't use GTK.
- Cinnamon: when you like GNOME 3 but you want a different menu
- Deepin: when you want a desktop with the build quality of an HP laptop.
Aren't sure whether to use Xorg or Wayland?
- Xorg: if you want to absurdly fuck up your touchscreen, pick this one.
- Wayland: if you want to screw up most of your apps, too bad; this won't work with your proprietary drivers. If only it did.
What distro to use?
- Ubuntu: if you want to break your system with PPAs, check out this one.
- Debian: when you want Ubuntu except with more out of date packages
- Redhat: when you want Debian except with more out of date packages
- ElementaryOS: wait, someone actually made a properly designed Linux UI?
- Arch Linux: the only thing that doesn't make me sick anymore.
- Slackware: "that exists still really?"
- Gentoo: when you hate systemd more than waiting 4 days to compile Firefox on every release.
... I love Linux. I do. But it is very taxing to get things comfortable for me anymore. I feel like the Linux Desktop is in a period of flux and it's painful to be a part of right now.25 -
-The oldest computer can be traced to Adam and Eve
-Yes, it was an apple
-But with an extremely limited memory
-Just one byte
-Then everything crashed5 -
There are two kinds of people:
those who write
if foo.isBar() {
foo.setBar(false)
}
else {
foo.setBar(true)
}
Vs
those who write
foo.setBar(!foo.isBar())
Only good programmers will understand😢😊31 -
Boyz, I don't feel like Windows 10 is collecting enough information from me. What can I do about this? I want to give everything to Microsoft <310

Most of the time devCat is crucial in the coding/debugging process. However, sometimes he gets a little ADHD and goes rogue.8

How to properly have fun on a Saturday night:
1. Suddenly become deeply unsatisfied with current linux distro
2. Evaluate alternatives
3. Decide some change is needed but not too much: install fresh version of old distro
4. Once again, experience profound dissatisfaction
5. Opt for radical change
6. Erase all linux partitions, form a super partition and install a new linux distro on it
7. Spend hours familiarising with the new distro
8. Spend more hours googling stuff and typing commands in the terminal
9. Download current devRant avatar, send it to the PC via Telegram and set it as user's avatar for the welcome screen
10. Feel deeply satisfied
11. Accidentally wake girlfriend up while trying to get to bed. Get told off for staying up until 4am and for "being such a nerd"21 -
The next time you see developers wearing headphones, please understand that it's our most polite of saying:
"I'm in the freaking 'zone'. Don't you dare disturb my rhythm in coding and lose my momentum. Now unless it's reaaally that important, leave it in our group chat/email and I'll read it later."
Tap gently. We're at overdrive when we headbang to music while coding.7 -

Sitting on the bus updating my system.
Random girl: What are you using?
Me: Linux :).
Random girl: Ohh I use Mac, because that doesn't have viruses and can't get hacked!
*me waiting for a cliff to jump off*36 -
Boss: We need this update deployed and propagated before end of day.
Web: done!
Android: done!
iOS:...
Boss: what's the matter?
iOS: 2-3 business days, sir.
Apple and its app review process. Ugh!7
