@asgs the average developer doesn’t need a full 8 hours to complete most assigned tasks working for most established companies with a well established codebase. Finding yourself in a position where you have a lot of downtime after tickets, PR, and meetings you tend to get bored. OE is for those that find themselves in this position, it’s leveraging both efficiency and opportunity, efficiency of your job and the opportunity to make more. As of right now I make ~234k at two jobs and still find myself fulfilling deliverables in a timely fashion for both. It’s especially great for jobs that can be automated like well most data entry jobs
-
So that’s how you feel, wow
-
@wackOverflow I try to mitigate that in interview one of my questions pertain to the daily life of a developer on the team they usually then discuss time of SCRUM and length. I’ve had a few cases where meetings have intercepted as long as both jobs don’t use the same platform (Teams, specifically) you can usually just make an excuse for non mandatories, cc and wait for your name in scrum, or if your like me with the weird gift of following multiple sounds it’s barely an issue to attend both with closed captions. However this doesn’t happen as often as people think
-
@sariel I didn’t, and I found out from a connection from another job that the background screening process checks
if(jobList.contains(jobOnResume)) not all the jobs you’ve ever had so I don’t usually post current jobs on resume or talk about them in interview, if they aren’t listed on the resume. Also, slowly finding out a lot of places don’t care as long as you get the work done. In the case that they do find out I have a plethora of recruiters to reach back out to. -
@rantsauce overemployed working multiple full-time jobs at once
-
@prodigy214 I’m sure it is and I think that’s what he means he just worded it weird
-
@darrenrahnemoon weirdly this bs about my name being “at the top of practically every list” weirdly explains the amount of recruiters contacting me every day
-
@jazznoodler you think so? 🤔
-
@zemaitis That was all they said "The required functionality wasn't built using true MVVM."
-
I love burr and sequential puzzles hell one of my favorite YouTubers is Chris Ramsey
-
@TeachMeCode it was really weird to me too
-
I actually have never heard of live templates, so thanks I'm going to go try it
-
@bosi that’s where we are right now is just refactoring the entire codebase to Kotlin because we have no issue tickets right now 🤷🏾♂️
-
@Oktokolo well mobile is what got me into development
-
@AleCx04 Kotlin with a little Java
-
@BigBallOfMud oh for sure I've been interviewing like crazy Kotlin is hot right now
-
Am I the only one curious about the sister-printer situation?
-
@prodigy214 lol you are telling me 😮💨
-
@prodigy214 it’s a credit union
-
@ComputerToucher this entire thread sent me

@NEMESISprj most definitely and Ik what you mean I do the exact same thing
-
@dIREsTRAITS rubber duck debugging and my girlfriend bought them for me because l’ve “been working really hard at school and thought these would help”
-
@NEMESISprj actually these are my first ones I never really knew where to find them, or which ones I wanted. Then my girlfriend told me she bought these to help me not be as stressed debugging.
-
I’m definitely down for this
-
@homo-lorens I was a psychology student first and I can say that this version of positive reinforcement conditioning does actually work I may try it.🤔🤔🤔

@Berkmann18 I’m doing CS and he GD, our school provides us with LinkedInLearning so I told him that if he can’t sit through and start practicing more C# lessons then I’m not going to be of much use to him. Sent him a link to a course and told him to study through the weekend because he’s going to be expected to build a console blackjack game at the end of the course and I can’t help him do that when I’m still walking him through making a simple string.
