In response to this thread, I'm pretty happy with sticking to the official title for the role

@maltedMilk Definitely not trying not to lie. In the long term I'm working towards a back-end focus. It doesn't hurt to have a broad role at this point, especially since it's entry level and provides some solid perspective. I just want to frame myself in the best possible way for my long-term goals.
-
@practiseSafeHex @heyheni the role is unusually broad and also involves UX & Design. Ruby on Rails with Angular.
-
@itsdaniel0 I would consider that

1Password is great software

@rantalicious thanks. I suppose, I feel my brain is being fragmented by design/ui, front end and backend, all of which involve a slightly different mental process. It seems I can't let go of any of them, but it feels that it's hindering me in both having expertise/specialisation and in turn landing a great position at a company

@jckimble do you think there would be a difference in performance, given that macOS was developed specifically for the hardware?
-
@nickhh I had an Ubuntu Dell a few years ago. It was good but not without problems.
-
@jckimble I have a MacBook 12. It's nimble and powerful enough, but I'm was thinking of selling and buying a machine specifically for Linux, since it feels wrong running anything other than macOS on a MacBook. Actually one of my fears about switching is that I would detach myself from the outside world and from my users.

What's your verdict?

@nitaj96a as the creator of JavaScript, programming hero and thought leader Brendan Eich once said, ECMAScript 'sounds a little like a skin disease'
-
@dan-pud there were a few reasons. Firstly they weren't interested in negotiating with me as an individual, despite me being very upfront about what I needed and why. Secondly I met some of their staff at one of their meetups who looked like they were forced to be their against their will. Their employee that gave a talk at the meetup seemed unorganised and confused. The owner seemed like he had no interested in talking to me for more than 30 seconds. Finally the salary was nothing to write home about. I worked at a company like that before in another industry so I could spot the warning signs a mile off. Their website had a great front end though.

ECMAScript is marginally worse.
