Do they provide hugs? Because when things go poorly at work I'd just like for someone to hold me for a bit and tell me it's gonna be ok. Although I'll settle for a back massage.
-
@fuck2code You haven't. I personally favor a middle ground. Nobody should be targeting anyone ideally. But if it does happen, consider the context.
-
@-ANGRY-CLIENT- first part only. Being straight is your sexuality which is different from your gender. A cis woman can be a lesbian, straight, bi, or even asexual.
-
@-ANGRY-CLIENT- I think it's more a counter reaction of people who had to deal with transphobia. I think nobody should be phobic of anyone else. But if you're cis and you do encounter cisphobia I think you really should realize how good you normally have it and that people who've really suffered sometimes do shitty things to deal with it. If you really wanna get your panties in a twist over something so rare you really are being a bit of a whiner imo.
-
@-ANGRY-CLIENT- Cisphobia means being phobic of people who were born as the gender they identify as. For example you are born with female genitalia and you identify as a woman. This is true for most people and considered the norm.

Driving everywhere and sitting still all day means you don't get 'free' exercise and I can sympathise with that. But once you are aware of the cause of the problem you can fix the problem. You will either need to make time or you will need to sneak it in. I had a colleague replace part of his commute by biking. He lived too far to do it all but he did part of it and he got fitter and happier while still having convenience.

Can confirm. Old boss was former sales. Set product release date and told us to make it happen. Scope creep bloated everything. Product wasn't ready in time. Got the blame because it was my lack of belief that ruined everything. I quit and got a better job. You don't want to listen, you can feel the pain then. Probably is still bitching that employees ruin businesses. 😒
-
@-ANGRY-CLIENT- Cisphobia is stupid imo. I don't think anyone should get judged for who they are but if your birth gender aligns with your mental gender you do got it pretty good so owe up to that.

As developers we really should pay more care to stop following groupthink and look at the facts. Companies may have bad track records but companies also change. I understand the initial fearful reaction but wait and see. Either it will be fine, or it won't be, but there are alternatives and new good services have risen and even become better when others died. Plus VSTS was mentioned and it is really amazing.

Ask for a raise and / or assistance. It can be a great way ahead in your career if you stay. But if it gets too bad, yes, run.
-
You can disable system apps. Deactivate or delete your account though if serious. Don't let them keep your data.

When marketing decides to add an extra 0 to pad numbers a bit because they think nobody will notice 👌

You can soften the question to ask the same thing. "Why would you recommend working here" or even "Tell me what you love about this company".
Even if you already gathered some things from the interview you should always ask questions to appear interested. If something was mentioned you could say "Can you tell me more about these group lunches" or "Whats a good story from the last office party you spoke about".
I've found doing these things set you apart and can even allow you to cover for other small mistakes or shortcomings. -
Make sure you stay hydrated enough. I wear contacts and if I don't do this my eyes get murdered. Always have water on your desk and sip it through the day. Then you'll also have to take more pee breaks during which your eyes get some rest.

Heroes is management speak for devs that are available at all hours and don't question ridiculous deadlines and other shenanigans.

Not with family but it did come up at work. We all wished we had some. I'm building a portfolio of alt coins though so maybe I can still get lucky?
-
Good stuff! Happy holidays.

I use sleep as android and had to enable barcode scanning because i will turn off everything else in my sleep. So now i have to get up and scan a bottle in the bathroom. It's brutal but it beats over sleeping because you can't trust your sleeping self 😂

@1989 Work does offer time off as compensation but those who worked overtime this year still haven't gotten theirs calculated so they can't take it. And git blame is a git command. Bunch of us here took on command usernames. Maybe ironic right now though.
-
@Froot I think my boss might have ordered support to track my performance. He's really not happy with me. Was threatened with getting the boot later today. Still I wish support would do me a solid and not report every nitpicky detail they can find. Because I'm expected to address every last one. Did shove a lot of it into the next 'sprint' by listing basically how this is new development that doesn't fit the scope and how much time and effort it would require to implement.
-
@linuxxx I would never :D Ranting keeps me going in these dark times. And it's nice to see not everyone is in as bad a situation. Gives me hope I can find a good fit too.
-
TIL that UPDATE queries don't pass until the whole thing is run so we're in the clear. Time to go home!
-
Might be another long time considering it's at an all time high already.
-
Asking? My boss just dictates. Then gets upset when it doesn't happen.
-
@gitpush We had it before with the storage server too. Our network manager saved the day then by archiving a lot of old stuff into zip files. But sooner or later we will run out of space again there. It really makes me mad because storage doesn't even cost that much but corrupted or lost data due to running out of space does.
-
@vicary Yes. Also my boss keeps reminding us, as a way to motivate us I guess, he will have to fire people if we don't run enough profit 🙁
-
@htlr Fun fact: Our current release is called Titan. We've been calling it Titanic for ages now. Guess how that came about.
-
Happening at my job right now. Not considered a priority fix. And would break stuff when fixed. Sigh.
-
@encore Maybe I should tell my boss about this...

Check the return policy. You might be able to get your money back.
