@qwwerty Thank you so much for this link. I'll share and discuss it with my colleagues!
-
@Demolishun Oh, dear. Reading that text from Reddit is hard! No punctuation at all. The liquid shit just comes out from their mind right onto the screen.
-
@Demolishun Listening, focusing, reading and writing, basic math?
-
@hkl101 The short verbal exchange with the student was proof enough for me that he didn't do a single assignment. Classic Dunning-Kruger example.
-
@d00td00t It is not about preferences in Go. The rules are enforced, Allman-style just won't compile.
-
@electrineer The first half was conducted; for the second half they could either pick something more conducted, but they decided to work on an idea of their own. So they need to conduct themselves.
-
@Voxera Why does the Spring framework (for backend applications) need graphics?
-
@electrineer No, I gave them the option to work on a project on their own. Those who wanted to do that (which was the majority) haven't the slightest clue on how to do it.
-
@c3r38r170 Ban HTTP? Why? Does the content of some public information page need to be encrypted?
-
I'd like to genuinely thank you for this sane post which improved my weekend tremendously. You are a reasonable person, which is rather uncommon in 2023.
-
@Demolishun "Opinionated" could range from having some default settings as the author of the software considers them reasonable to an inflexible way of doing things, because the author thinks his way is the only way. Good example: A web framework that picks default lifetimes for access and refresh tokens. Bad example: Those defaults cannot be overwritten.
-
And it didn't start to blow?
-
@b2plane Where do you live? In Switzerland, a good dinner in a good restaurant costs 100 USD.
-
@retoor The country/region/city would be interesting for context.
Me: roughly 100k in Switzerland per year -
@cuddlyogre I wonder if those Rust zealots and actual Rust developers are actually the same people. I guess there are people working productively in Rust, and there's other people just suggesting doing so. (This is a bit ironic; I'd have to slightly modify the title from "Rust programmers" to "Rust zealots".)
-
@SuspiciousBug Exactly! With Puppet, it's rather 1-5 minutes for a feedback cycle.
-
@cypher-clown OK; some struggle with Docker, because they've never used Linux before. But then that's not the problem.
-
Have you worked with Linux before?
-
@TheEnd Does that "hero" status translate into salary raises, or is it a pat on the back?
-
@electrineer I'll give learning Rust while working a shot...
-
@Lensflare Now that you're saying it... The source of this amusement is that we also have some in-house Python tools to manage our infrastructure. And we use fanstatic to deploy JavaScript source files ;-)

If people follow you voluntarily, you are a leader.
If people walk away from you, you aren't a leader. -
@100110111 They know a tiny bit of C#, which is quite close to Go, but not such a good fit.
The issue is not the programming language, but the fact that they have to do some actual programming. -
I wondered if he's using version control at all, and was surprised to read about a .gitignore file. Not using version control wouldn't really come at a surprise in such a setting...
-
@100110111 In order to glue some services together as an actual application and to provide some HTTP endpoints to interact with.
-
@EmberQuill Wasn't about infrastructure, it was about "solutions", and on how to design and implement them.
-
Very few since the restriction was lifted on the 1st of April, and nothing bad happened.
-
Just to catch up (> 3 years ago): The guy once went to the bathroom and forgot to lock his PC, Spotify still playing. So I rick-rolled him. After he came back, he just listened to the song and looked quite happy...
-
@RANTSMCPANTS The worst is having developers around that think that resources are not restricted.
-
@cmarshall10450 Should I try to hurt myself with that fork?
