@musician I'm actually looking forward to steams whole Linux thing going on. Lots of games suddenly working on it is great
-
@caap yeah it's for gaming mainly
-
@ceee I almost never look at the background but did pay extra when I got my glasses to get blue filter on them just due to working and playing behind a screen all day lol
-
Though I do a lot of front end too for internal applications. A lot of knowledge can be transferable
-
Similar happened to me, was self studying front end stuff, only thing close to back end I new was Java for desktop dev which was also self taught for the most part after an intro class in college. Now I do C# .net dev work. When I went to school for design. :| Totally meant to get into UX UI but oops
-
I loathe WIX even when someone pays me to set up a site for them with it. At least it's a fast gig and usually make a decent amount for what it is.
-
@gashadokuro
Correct. Writing has never been my strong suit. -
@djsumdog the dev department is 1000000x better, was in tech support before. It was still a crappy situation though.
-
@sunfishcc ah. I don't work with react at all honesty I hardly touch html even but just thought it would be a funny tat.
-
@sunfishcc co workers thought the same but it's actually completely valid with out it.
-
I'm a c# dev and I know c++ is good for games but as said above C# is used in unity which is increasingly popular, plus then you'd have c# experience that could more easily be applied to other kinds of roles. It seems C# / .net are still pretty big if you're not looking to get into massive tech hub areas for the most part.

Dev with a design degree all I can say is fuck this lol
-
@Drastic this is true lol
-
Just had my first interview for a dev two weeks ago and found out I got it on Monday. Know the feeling man, you got this! Worst they can do is say no, but when you follow up to ask when you'll hear about it, it wouldn't hurt to throw in "if I don't get it, could you make suggestions to me for areas I would need to improve on that would have moved you to hire me" something along those lines. If they give you feed back it could help a lot too.

That's why my school started with Java and C#, because it's easier to work down in complexity than up from an easier language. That and it makes it just so much easier to pick up new languages. ~ 22yo newbie dev here.
-
Thanks everyone! I'll. Be working next to a much more experienced dev for the first two months or so, I'm sure I'll learn tons. Just thought it didn't hurt to ask here too, love the community on devRant.

literally anyone with design education myself included as my first degree is in it. it's like we cant help being nit picky.
-
Yes categories would be great. Maybe even an FML category? I feel it would be used as rants and FML wouldn't always overlap.
-
I'd have to agree even as a beginner I'm finding this to be true...
