Online logo generator, but it automatically buys an .io domain of your company name and ask you to buy it for 100 times the price.6

Any built a self-hosted compute server before? I’m debating making one. I am a big fan of laptops and don’t have a PC. I also don’t play video games so I would mostly be using the PC for code projects which lead me to the idea of a self hosted compute server17

How do I make my manager understand that something isn’t doable no matter how much effort, time and perseverance are put into it?
———context———
I’ve been tasked in optimizing a process that goes through a list of sites using the api that manage said sites. The main bottle neck of the process are the requests made to the api. I went as far as making multiple accounts to have multiple tokens fetch the data, balance the loads on the different accounts, make requests in parallel, make dedicated sub processes for each chunks. All of this doesn’t even help that much considering we end up getting rate limited anyway. As for the maintainer of the API, it’s a straight no-can-do if we ask to decrease the rate limit for us.
Essentially I did everything you could possibly do to optimize the process and yet… That’s not enough, it doesn’t fit the 2 days max process time spec that was given to me. So I decided I would tell them that the specs wouldn’t match what’s possible but they insist on 2 days.
I’ve even proposed a valid alternative but they don’t like it either, admittedly it’s not the best as it’s marked as “depreciated” but it would allow us to process data in real time instead of iterating each site.3 -
SOME GUY IN MY TEAM, PROBABLY: I don't want to get political, but what the actual FUCK is boolean?12

My manager just had a chat with me, following up on our previous conversation. I think in an attempt to get me to stay.
Him: "From the work you're doing, it looks like you're really trying, putting a lot of thought into your code"
Me: I thought I was half assing it...
Him: "You'll learn by coding in new languages"
Me: "I've professionally coded in 8 different programming languages, including the ones we use here"
Him: "We do meaningful code reviews where we try to understand what the code is doing, not like other places"
Me: So, just like every other company I've worked at?2 -
You know what? Fuck it. Git CLI. Hot take.
Question is "least favorite". Not "worst". Not "least important".
Git is great, essential, fantastic, whatever. But I hate interacting with the CLI. I can never remember the stupid fucking commands, I always mess shit up if I need to do something outside of my normal workflow, and honestly, usually the correct way of doing shit looks fucked.
So fuck git CLI and its learning curve27 -
Always the same story:
Marketing: hey I'm gonna do a demo to a customer. They were asking for feature XYZ. That's ready on thr staging server right? Do you think I could use the staging server for the demo?
Devs: well feature XYZ is not 100% done. Basically just feature X is done, and it still has a few bugs. The deadline ain't for another month, since we gotta finish ABC first. I guess you could use the staging, but it has a lot of bugs.
Marketing: perfect!
*after presentation*
Marketing: the staging had so many bugs! Why didn't you tell me?! It was so embarrassing showing it to new customers! Anyway, they loved the new feature. We need it to be ready ASAP.
Devs: What?! That's gonna mess up with our schedule. You know what? Fine, but feature ABC will have to wait another month.
Marketing: Well, it'd be ideal if we could do both...
Devs: Pay for more devs or dor extra hours.
Marketing: Just do XYZ. It's a pity that you'll have to push back ABC but it's fine, XYZ is more important.
(I might ask, if it was so important, why didn't you notice so in the meeting where we had decided that ABC would be prioritized?)
*tons of working hours later*
Devs: There, we finished XYZ.
Marketing: Yay! Wow, this month we'll have two major features done: ABC and XYZ!
Devs: No, ABC is not done yet.
Marketing: What? But the deadline was this week.
Devs: It was, but then you decided to prioritize XYZ and we said we had to push back ABC to get XYZ ready, and you agreed.
Marketing: Did we? Fine. But do it quick.
Marketing and their mood swings.5
