me: I will major in CS so I can work with computers, not people
narrator: But little did he know...4 -
this may sound like bs, but it's mostly about posture. it's fine to be a bit slower than the rest, but being punctual, responsible, patient, engaged, those are things people notice and value. if you're gonna be the boss you're not gonna be doing minion tasks anyway, it makes sense to pick someone with soft skills and maturity5

Interviewer: I don't understand. With a resume and portfolio like yours you shouldn't be applying to companies like us. You should be setting your sights on companies like Google/Meta. You'd be bored here after everything you've done so far. I know we're offering more money than your current position but you're worth more believe me. I'm going to keep looking, and so should you. But you need to aim higher.
Dev: ...
Well fuck me I guess?18 -
TIL that “Mozilla” is an acronym for “Mosaic Killa”. There once was an ancient browser called Mosaic.6

Command: "Infantry unit, this is Command. The enemy is approaching, what's your status?"
Infantry Unit: "Command, this is Infantry unit. Just a quick note, my pronouns are they/them. Can we please use that in all communications going forward?"
Command: "Infantry unit, the enemy is upon you and you're worried about pronouns?"
Infantry Unit: "Command, this is Infantry unit. It's not just about me, it's about respect and inclusivity"
Command: "Infantry unit, you're about to be inclusively dead. Defend yourselves!"
Infantry Unit: "Command, this is Infantry unit. Wait, what? Oh s***."

Manager was a douche again.
I mean not that it's anything new but this guy seriously has an issue with being respectful to coworkers and me. Has this pompous, I'm better than thou attitude. It completely ticks me off.
Guy needs an attitude adjustment stat. As a leader I expect better. I get you've been in the industry 20 years. I get it, but you don't have to be an asshole about it. I'm doing my best, I may code a little slower, but I'm not fucking stupid.1 -
They are paying me 6€/h, to develop in fucking FoxPro, as a freelancer, illegally.
I don't know how to tell them I'd make way more money as a dogsitter (and also enjoy it way more).
It all began as a favor for my old company, "we really need it plz plz" and then I became a slave.15 -
Has any of you tried to launch their own e-commerce business and if so, was it successful ? Was it hard to find the products, the marketing, the ads ?1

Let's start 2023 !
WHO THE FUCK imagined that having language like YAML is a good idea ??
Fuck you and your spaces. No editor produce any decent errors messages except "Your spaces are wrong".
When you edit an Azure debops pipeline, it's just 5 min ti do thing, 35 minuites to figure ou where to add/remove spaces.
NO, I WILL NOT read 25 pages of documentation to add a single step into pipeline.
Fuck YAML !29 -
Interviewer: So are you familiar with our company and what we do?
Dev: I looked at your website, looks like you build tools for managing restaurants.
Interviewer: No. That’s not even close.
Dev: ?
Interviewer: What we do is create an ecosystem of integrated data centres all orchestrated for immediate stakeholder utilization.
Dev: But the product itself…. it’s a user interface for tracking inventory. Of like…. burgers…. and bottles of wine.
Interviewer: It’s not a product! It’s a data……habitat!!
Dev: …
Dev: So does that make your users animals?
Interviewer: 😡. Unfortunately it looks like you do not see our vision and would not be a good fit for this role.
Dev: Agreed.27 -
I got two lines of code done today, and they were just changing numeric defines. Time to do that: 2 seconds.
Time for analysing the measurement data of various runs in order to know which numbers will work out: the rest of the day.6 -
I'm reading jobs ads for engineers at my current company and laughing. It sounds so serious with the wording they use but in reality, it's a clownhub.
This shows I should not be intimidated by job ads and trust my abilities and have more fucking confidence!3
