I finally broke down and bought a dedicated pair of headphones a few years ago. Then last year I bought a USB dac/amp to go with them. It's so worth it.
-
Nice! I've got a few of those. Had to write a doc for myself because six months from now I won't understand it either :-|
-
Three things I do when this starts happening.
1. Tell my supervisor, in kind but clear terms, saying I can't get any work done because j have too many meetings.
2. Start blocking off large chunks of your day, assign each hour to some named project.
3. Fight every meeting request with either the backing of your boss (#1), or with a clear explanation that attending will delay such-and-such project (#2)
They won't like it, but at least you'll get some work done. -
I have way too many pet projects. Probably doesn't help that I get loaned and borrowed across the company for random projects. The work literally never ends. But, hey, job security!
-
It's a trrrraaaaappppp!
-
@kheftel, this is totally you!
-
I'm usually on Mac, but every time I get on a new Windows machine I'm blown away at what Windows users put up with.
-
Didn't know I needed them until now. It's cray cray...
-
This happens far too often....
-
@nmunro absolutely. In fact part of the problem is that cloud means different things to different people. Without context they might actually be talking about an AS400 hosted by IBM in the "cloud". I'm just really growing to hate the term...
-
I took Sharepoint OFF my resume. Screw they product, and screw the horse it rode in on.
-
You'd be shocked at the big name companies with insane DB design issues. Your boss is one of many, I'm sad to say.
-
@kheftel lately I've been seeing "5 years experience with the cloud". Which is hilarious because cloud computing (for my line of work) is still in its infancy. No one has had 5 years to get that experience.
-
Such a fun game, especially when you get a good team together. Maybe I've healed you (Mercy), or shot you in the face with a rocket (Farah). Good times!
-
I've seen some doozies. It's like they take all the technology they are using, plan to use, and have ever used and put them all in a blender.
-
This one never gets old....
-
@dave-g ain't that the truth
-
@SnowyLoli I pick names with meanings for what I'm doing. Like a cleanup process will be called concierge, a monitoring process will be called watchdog or pitbull. Some of the process automation scripts are called Automaton or Voltron. Parent child relationships are often called foo/bar and bees/knees, etc. I try to stick to English, but sometimes I slip and using French or Spanish words. I went through a Star Wars phase, lol. Strangely enough most of the complaints have come from my use of uncommon English words.
-
I have the opposite problem! As a multilingual/musician/creative type I can name things all the live long day. The problem is that my names annoy the other developers 😂
-
@HelmetBro nah, although I probably support programs than increase longevity. AIDS vaccine project is something else we're workout on, but I'm not assigned to that project (yet).
-
@amjo Ahhh, got it. Yeah, I do crap like that too. But I write them as insert statements and save them in my notes so I never ever have to manually key them in again.
-
Automate the shiznit outta that thing. The programming gods gave us databases for a reason ;-)
-
I once spent six month making incremental big fixes before spending all day writing six GOOD lines of code to replace my iterated piece of crap 100 line solution.
