I find sublime to be better than VSCode in the area of extensibility and speed.
-
Thing is most of those libraries are easy enough to use and cover a small enough API surface that that's probably enough.
(From experience, though I only add things that I had to learn for a major project.) -
@-Neo Distribution is based on debian. DE is homegrown and based on QT5, but it doesn't feel like it. It feels like what GNOME-shell could've been.
-
Yeah, not a fan of it to be honest. I do everything with a search box.
Deepin is a Chinese-made distribution/de, which gives one reason for concern, and it's not hugely customizable, but boy is it slick. -
@-Neo It pretty much works well enough for me not to complain, but not enough to reach super high levels of productivity. I've customized it a lot but it still doesn't handle everything. The system tray in particular is a bit wonky.
As my main desktop I was using GNOME, but recently found Deepin to be both faster and, well, fancier. -
I just use a small binary wrapper that communicates over UNIX domain sockets or Winsock. A lot easier than writing a native add-on, and future proof. (If inneficient due to memory copying.)
-
Sure, JWTs are great, and fairly simple, but make sure you know what you're doing first, as if you don't you can easily shoot yourself in the foot. Don't worry, the theory behind it is really easy to grasp.
-
Current distribution: Arch
Desktop Environment: Deepin, i3 backup.
Recommend distribution for a beginner, Fedora or Antergos. -
@Electrux I'm using Arch right now with No to fonts. Looks great to me. Much better antialiased than Windows IMO.
-
@Electrux Really? I've always found macOS and Linux font rendering to be much easier on the eyes. Even with Windows 10.
-
Windows is great! It gives me something new to spend time on fixing every time it updates. Never a dull moment.
-
Yes. Absolutely.
... But good luck ever finishing it. I've been redoing mine for the past three years and have yet to publish anything. Six redesigns? Check. Backend changes? Check. Is it complicated? No. Am I a perfectionist? Yes.

Me and my more musically inclined brother use LMMS to great effect.
-
@Data-Bound Does fetch count? If so, yesterday.
-
The ultimate legacy codebase...
-
I use i3, then start GNOME in-session if I need to.
-
They have these, government sponsored, in China. Also running Ubuntu or a derivative.
-
Personally I prefer Nautilus (latest GNOME version), and would like to see something of the sort on Windows. Apparently that's an unpopular opinion among Linux users though.
-
That leaves you a month or two to learn something else!
-
I love learning them all. Great for your resume. Just do random personal projects in different frameworks.
-
That position can't be good for your back.
-
For some people, people like me, we have no problem understanding and working with all the tooling.
I'm a former Java dev, and now I prefer plain ES6 or Flow, if I really want types.
The biggest draw for me is the flexibility and the short amount of time I need to set up my tooling and start getting straight into code. (I know, I know.)
If you work with anything long enough, it just starts to make sense. -
Having written two production apps in Angular 2, my advice is:
BAIL OUT (and learn Vue or React instead.)
Granted I lost all my faith in Angular because we started the apps during the RC stage, which was a total nightmare, especially the router debacle. -
Extensions!
-
RethinkDB, like Mongo but painless and has join support.
-
Newton's Cradle is my favorite of his. :D
-
Welcome to TypeScript, may I take your order? (And break it on the next update?)
-
I'm fairly sure Angular and the devil are on good terms.
