The choice to boils down to what you find easier to keep regular with and what you value.
Personally I value owning fewer things taking up space, so gyms make sense. On the other hand I also want to be able to have one routine that works in any situation (i.e. travelling), so I focus on using the least equipment possible. Thus I workout at home with a bodyweight routine (r/bodyweightfitness recommended routine, but less stretching) and have a treadmill because I don't like running in the city. -
I felt that way initially when modifying a Django project. More recently when I've had to work on it again running through the flow of data it makes a lot more sense. I'm quite impressed by the scope of he autogenerated admin backend.

Set up ssh to the server and make a script to do the deployment from git.

This works on desktop Safari too BTW. Causes it to start hogging resources like a mofo until the PC becomes unresponsive. We learned this the hard way when I showed off the vulnerability to my boss...

@PhpForever ...where did I come from, Cotton Eye Joe?
-
@bashleigh I'm also interested to see where it is headed in the future. I don't know for how long I'll be using it but it seems to be the right tool for me at this time and I can get things done reasonably well (obviously also in large part with the help of Laravel).
-
@zickig @AlexDeLarge I agree with what you both are saying. Everything has problems. I'm talking at a high level about getting things done. As others have commented in this thread, PHP's strength is that it enables that. But on the flip side, that's also a weakness due to the pile of low quality work being pushed out. Yes it might be verbose and inconsistent, but again you can say that about a lot of things in this industry.
On a technical level I'll take your word for it on needing to dive deeper in the inner workings. I'm just saying if it helps you get to where you want to be, use it. Same as any other language or framework. Some devs aren't interested in knowing the nitty gritty; they just want to pay their bills.
Frameworks might not make the language better but they do make the work better. That's why they are made and used after all. -
*does it in 3 lines by importing a doitall mcguffin module that depends on 20 others

@ArchLinux NoCoin. Stops all coin mining scripts on websites. Usually uBlock can do the job as well with proper filtering, but I've noticed it kicking into gear every once in a while.
NoScript I don't use. -
DDG, Linux Mint, ProtonMail, gutted my FB account of almost all content (still need it because of a group or two), Gmail being slowly phased out, Private cloud hosting, deleted my Instagram.
I'd use Signal more but it's impractical as everyone here uses WhatsApp and I'm not willing to undergo complete isolation just to spite Zuckerberg.
FB and Instagram were also to curb down on distractions. I only have Mastodon, LinkedIn and devRant.
Browsing with Firefox using uBlock, NoCoin, HTTPS Everywhere, Privacy Badger. -
@Artemix really that bad? I also want something I would eventually get paid for and perhaps specifically in robotics, which seems to be in C and C++ from what I saw.
-
@matsaki95 @Artemix Thanks! Yeah I've got a ton of CS books to go through this year. Just want to also start with a new language alongside.
-
@nottoobright Good idea actually! It's the soccer assignment on my. Github profile. I assume my code is inefficient but it does provide the correct output reasonably fast, so the only reason for failure aside from that would be interpretation of some of the question being optional (input via file or cli).

Well, at least that kind of "bug" doesn't need fixing once you discover the cause 😂
-
Lol, come to Cape Town and I'll show you train incompetence. I've been sitting in a train that hasn't moved from a station in 15 minutes because of infrastructure damages that were done a whole month ago already.

KeePassXC has Windows, Linux, probably OSX, and an open source Android app on FDroid. Just have to lug your password file along with you. Or use a FOSS cloud and sync there.

What @theuser said. There are no household name backers. I'd also like to add the lack of AAA games. I spoke about this in a Mastodon thread today. The Linux market is small enough to make cross platform capabilities only a nice to have, and indies only do it if they care enough or their engine supports it. Couple that with having to go through learning Wine and looking up if a given application works with it and you've got a big hurdle for a large chunk of the market that would actually care to switch.
That's why I made a thread here a while back about some resources that help you find if your favourite games are compatible. Luckily for me the games I cared about are compatible, and the rest have decent Wine capability. But I'm one of the few.
Normal users cannot be expected to put in that kind of "effort" in transitioning or trying to use the software they want to use. -
I used to work for a Transcription company based in the US that transcribes voice mails for clients.
We had a whole Hip Chat channel dedicated to writing down robocalls so we could just copy and paste them later. So many scams, collections, legitimate notifications and political calls. The job did a number on my fingers from typing so much, but it was sometimes fun hearing what the American public said and thought. -
@teganburns How about you calm down? Not all developers need to build their sites from scratch to match YOUR standards. I'm far from anything front end related so anything I design will be crap. Does that prohibit me from installing Grav and a theme for my site? It's an info repository. Installing some pretty js library is up to the individual.

I currently work in an office linked directly to the countrywide university network infrastructure. That's my speedtest as well. But I daisy chained my PC to my VOIP phone so can only get 100 max lol

Devs get paid a lot, so both 😎

Cryptopia is good. Avoid Bittrex because there's been reports of them withholding accounts and coins. Otherwise scout around.
-
Luckily I got a Ryzen 2 months ago.
Stock performance is only 3.1GHz but online articles show multiple people reliably OC to 3.9. -
@BindView Wish I did. Was a few months back. But just search for Steemit controversy and you'll find it.
Regardless, I see the platform gaining traction so I might hop back on if they haven't deleted my account by now. -
I'm a bit iffy on Steemit. There was some controversy on the founder that made me avoid it for now.
-
Ωραίο! I'll check it out 😊

@linuxxx No worries. I'm no fan but no rabid hater either. My concern is my privacy.
You actually owe me a post if I remember. I posted on my blog about privacy and you had something to say about it but I never heard of it again. -
@linuxxx Yeah I get that. I don't want to give my other email out so that's what I have left. Or as I asked, for a spare email from you or another group member.
