Guess who is amazed at how fast his "I'm not gonna spend my time rooting my brand new android flagship and fiddling around with AOSP ROMs" goodwill goes in the trashcan?

I finally got assigned to a project, working like a dog but it is for operators safety so it feels good. Also, I have been tasked with writing custom C++ plugins for our process simulators and damn it feels so good to match both my biggest interests. I hope to not get carried away by it in my evenings since I was learning some webdev in my freetime.
Also got UNIXstickers in the mail like 99% of the people here.
Oh, I also received my Seiko SKX and damn I already love it. -
FUCK
Anyone here who graduated in industrial sector engineering fields but managed to switch their careers towards IT/development? Considering that I do have related competences and solid foundations on 2/3 languages.
My job fucking sucks. The pay is good but I'm not doing shit since 2 weeks. Everyone works superslow because there is no shit to do and boredom kills us slowly. My family says that I just need to be assigned to a project and be patient. I don't want a super fast no free time environment, but if there are no challenges any single day what is even the point of getting up in the morning.
It's FUCKING depressing :(3 -
Hello fellow devranters,
I never thought I'd make a post like this but I need your help/opinion.
My thesis work is about to get published, I worked on a C++ software that solves what we call equivalent reactor network models (basically, different ideal chemical reactors interconnected in various ways). This extends an ecosystem in my research group that is OpenSMOKE, and every collateral applications usually follows a xxxSMOKE naming scheme.
I came up with NodusSMOKE (Nodus is Latin for fishing net) first but it doesn't feel right. Other names I came up with are LinkSMOKE or NetworkSMOKE.
I believe here I might find people who are much more creative than me. I kindly ask your help my dudes.2 -
I just got out of the office late and in a hurry to catch the train. I was in the zone dude, I was in it. I made an huge maintainability improvement on a framework I've worked on during the last year.
I fucking forgot to push and I'm in data corruption/laptop thievery anxiety 😥😥😥😥2 -
I'm about to get my MSc and I've been getting a lot of interesting offers as a software engineer at small and big companies.
But I'm a fucking chemical engineer, and I don't know if I should be honoured or I should be mad. What the fuck is wrong with people?2 -
Waiting for a meeting, thought I might as well show off my XPS sticker game.
ALSO, FUCK MEETINGS. MULTIPLE HOURS WASTED FOR SAYING THOUSANDS OF SHITS AND LIKE ONE USEFUL THING.
Edit: legit forgot pic18 -
This thesis work is legit putting me to the edge, I literally have been hating coding for the past 3 months and it used to be the #1 most beautiful thing I have ever learned to me.
Proof of how much some people can be fucking disgusting retarded assholes, existing just to steal oxygen. Fermenting my vomit is a better clean air investment than letting these monkeys live. -
Boss/prof (does not understand code): "I like it more this way. Come on don't make that face thanks to OOP it won't be that much of a deal to make a change right"
He wants to change a fundamental data structure of our software 😉😉😉1 -

Finally fucking set up full working quadruple boot on my XPS!
Thanks to nvidia+Intel Optimus for teaching me how to write hundred times nouveau.modeset=020 -
A coworker, Linux fan, argued (seriously) with me today that I shouldn't run 3 distros on my laptop because I'm "such a MS fanboy".
Let's make a bet, if I can squeeze your throat by reaching it from Ur anus u lil cunt WOULD YOU FUCKING LET ME DO MY SHIT WITHOUT GIVING ME YOUR UNWORTHY OPINION YOU FUCKING FAILED ABORTION
FUCKING
MONKEY13 -
Just shielded my laptop and his from this coworker's coffee. Not all heroes wear capes but sure its not very pleasant to be a walking espresso so FUCK EVERYBODY1

I really like coding for scientific purposes. It unites my big passions (natural sciences/engineering/coding). And I like the feeling of empowering someone to do research. BUT BESIDES DEALING WITH DUMB FEATURE REQUESTS, THERE IS NO WORSE PAIN THAN HEARING PHD CANDIDATES FUCKING SAY RETARDED STUFF. HOW DID YOU EVEN WON THE SCHOLARSHIP FOR THE PHD YOU DENSE SON OF A BITCH (NICE JOB ACADEMIC ENVIRONMENT BTW). YOU LACK KNOWLEDGE OF HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL EVEN ON YOUR OWN SUBJECT. THE BEST RESEARCH YOU CAN PROVIDE TO THIS WORLD IS THE FLUID DYNAMICS OF AIR WHILE YOU JUMP OFF A SKYSCRAPER MOTHERFUCKER.

Fucking spent a full day fixing a very big issue.
Very happy to have found a solution.
Time to pack my shit up and go home.
Realize that I didn't git pull.
Seems like I fixed that bitch issue last night when I couldn't sleep.
Since I did not sleep I might have been too tired to recall that.
🤔 Guess I'll kms -
When learning a new language I look up public repos on github, specifically those who are just collections of algos in different languages, and take a look + try to implement it in a different way. The good ones also have maintainers that actually take a look at your code when you open a PR and give you some hints if they are proficient in that language.

Roses are red
Boost I need you
You do so much I cannot breath
You fucking need to be hacked around every time I have to compile you for a different compiler or VS version getyourshittogheter fucking hell it makes me hate you -
You fucking dense motherfucker of a professor. You mentally disabled shit-eater. You fucking perfectly know that I have been offered a very good position in a company I really wanted to work at and you fucking force me to stay and wait for the next graduation date to make me get my fucking degree. Just because you offered me a PhD position and I didn't want it.
I sincerely hope you lose all your prestige. Fucking choke with a big ass cock in your throath, eat your own vomit disgusting piece of shit. You are a fucking 60yo child. You have no respect for people work, you always want more. Get cancer fucking animal.
HOLY SHIT HANG URSELF9 -
Hey guys quick question! Can you suggest a good kindle book for python? Also, what do you write it with? Currently using vscode with python extension.5
-
So, my simulations started to take about a week to complete.
Productively invested the time in getting into Python!
I'm really liking its syntax and relative simplicity (coming from c++) and I'm kinda digging it at a sort of proof-of-concept producer: instead of talking in pseudocode I can just put down a python script to show what I mean. -
So tomorrow I'm gonna tackle my last exam for my MSc presenting the "group project" aka I did it myself (tfw ur mates can't even matlab at least) thingie and sustain the most brutal oral examination in the whole 5 years on organic industrial chemistry.
Wish me luck. -

Not entirely Dev related so sorry 'bout that, but I have some form of vacation to spend, where I'll be at home working on my thesis project and preparing my last exam (wooo almost done with the shit). Since most of my friends are away for the holidays and I'm a huge fucking nerd and also somewhat a shitty weeb, can anyone suggest some anime related with tech or coding? I know of ghost in the shell but there are so many I don't know which might suit me. I kinda prefer modern/digitalised graphic styles (common in 2012+ animes to say). Also, girl-friendly to be able to watch them with my gf is a plus but not a necessity. -
HE:"Hey I improved my code"
ME:
*opens the file*
*Sees random static allocations*
*Code is as verbose as before*
*Down to 2600 lines from 2800ish*
*Still doesn't do shit properly*
"Uuuh what exactly did you do?"
*Starts noticing the lack of namespaces*
HE: "I used this using namespace std to write a bit less"
ME: "Can I pay you yoga lessons so you can taste your own cock and show your parents how good you are at it?"3 -
Taking notes or explaining mathematical,/physical concepts by writing I'm C++ syntax.
It's pretty good because all my other chemical engineering classmates stopped asking for my notes.2 -
How someone can think that the best idea to store a vector of physical values, knowing perfectly in which unit measure it needs to be provided for the back end to work, is to couple a vector of strings with the units, is beyond me.

DO YOU EVEN CARE ABOUT MENTAL HEALTH
FUCKING DICKSHIT THE WORLD DOESN'T NEED YOU, THE WORLD DOESN'T WANT YOU. YOU SHOULD HAVE SUFFOCATED STRANGLED BY YOUR MOM'S VAGINA. HOLY SHIT "Im sO HapPy tO LEarN prOgRAmmiNg" YOU ARE NOT FUCKING LEARNING ANYTHING IF YOU END UP WITH A 3000 LINES SINGLE FILE YOU ARE JUST SMASHING YOUR DEAD PARENTS ON THE KEYBOARD LITTLE SICK PIDGEON RAPER. FUCKING BACHELOR STUDENT OF MY ASS HANG YOURSELF.17 -
BOSS: Hey we should start implementing this thing in that program
ME: Yes but everything that is required for that at lower level is not yet done
BOSS: Just pretend it's done
ME: that is stupid, even if we have a general idea on how it will be done what's the point of writing code that relies on something that is not yet defined, I need to read that stuff and I don't know how we will structure that data
BOSS: Just make a guess you will fix it when the lower level stuff is done
ME: But it makes no sense! We will basically have to rewrite ground up everything
BOSS: also can you check the printer n°3 it doesn't connect to my PC
