@KingMilo Yeah that can happen... which distro are you trying right now?
-
Or they won't even have to ask, just run the queries... *cough* PRISM *cough* XKeyScore *cough*
-
@KingMilo No problem mate! And yeah, first trying out in virtualbox can be a good idea! Do keep in mind that the performance inside a VM can be less than 'the real thing' so if you see bad performance in a VM, it doesn't mean that it'll perform bad as an actual installation!
-
@shine Sounds somewhat familiar, mate :)
-
@Ranchu No offense taken mate. I can't see categories and such.... web app thing?
How could one categorize something wrong?
Rephrase: I don't see categories at all.... what categories are available or however you'd call that? -
@shine You did, I think! Servers are part of my work as well, though. Linux servers, that is.
-
@shine I've got some processes which (rightfully) take up more than 100 gigs of ram so I feel ya :P
-
@shine Same here haha. Been a Linuxer for quite a while now, although my main profession is cybersecurity :)
-
Oh man how I can relate to that. Nothing better than good fresh beans-coffee!
-
@LiterallyJesus Dude are you @LiterallyJesus?
-
@Ranchu Correctly tagging posts doesn't seem that hard? Or am I missing something?
-
Hi! And although you joined earlier than I did, welcome!
-
I'd love me a corona right now! Like the beer a lo....
Oh, you didn't mean THAT corona..? -
@shoop I guess the windows design liking is subjective. I actually don't dislike the windows 10 design that much (KDE Plasma has a quite similar look), I just wouldn't use the system.
As for the bugs and freezes, I might be one of the lucky ones who still hasn't had a single freeze (system-normal-use-related) since I started using these interfaces. Although I haven't seen many people claiming to have had freezes (I don't have numbers on that on Windows 10 so I won't speculate on that) -
@shine Yeah I can relate to living inside terminals. Although I do find Mate kinda ugly, it's fucking lightweight which makes it ideal for low-end hardware!
-
Let's just fucking hope that the new EARN-IT bill won't get through.
Also, I wouldn't even be surprised if Facebook already built in a feature into whatsapp allowing them to listen in somehow.
For the record, I have zero proof for this. But, seeing how facebook still collects data like fucking mad these days, I just wouldn't be surprised. -
@shine Fair point but the exact same goes for other systems.
I noticed the mentioning, no worries! But, that said, I've been using Linux for 10+ years both with and without GUI's and while they looked less attractive back in the days (imo), they were very workable (here the except part comes in again which, again, also counts for any other system which has a GUI).
And thank you! I'll try to get an avatar asap ;P -
For a beginner I'd advice something Debian based (like Ubuntu/Linux Mint/Kubuntu etc).
Those systems are rather easy to learn and use to get the hang of Linux better.
If you get stuck or something, it seems like there are a lot of Linuxers on here who'd love to help! -
I'd blame this entirely on twitter. Not because I hate twitter but.... this has been the only report I've seen on this where Firefox is involved, which probably means that the devs wrote this 'feature' while not keeping Firefox in mind.
(for the record, OR, I am not saying you are blaming Firefox, I'm just putting this out there as for information/my opinion) -
Oh I think that the Linux GUI world is just great! We've got KDE Plasma, Mate, Gnome, Cinnamon and so on, I'd say at least KDE Plasma and Gnome are sexy as hell.
-
The one thing I don't get it why people 'hate' on Linux's GUI's.
If you see KDE Plasma, Gnome and others... they look good and sleek and (except for if you have driver/hardware compatibility issues and such) work well.
