There's a special place in hell for JS people using `.then()` and `.catch()` instead of simply `await func()`.
Why have 5 lines of code with an await, when instead you can have 5 nested `.then` callbacks.

And yes I know there are some cases where async/await isn't applicable, but that's rather rare

I leave work feeling like I was beaten. Not just physically, I feel mentally beaten sometimes I want to cry.

Today was a bad dev day working on a shitty React project. Not that React in itself is bad, but it can be hell to work with when the code is a big pile a crap full of anti pattern code. I spent the day refactoring to try to fix a bug, but to no avail. It would take days if not weeks to put some order in this mess and to prevent such bugs.

I am a software engineer with many skills. Skills that are wasted on creating a QuickSight dashboard. The day I even look at this dashboard again or am asked to make another one, I will start applying to different jobs.

College is great, but there are just so many classes where I feel like I'm wasting my time

My previous bosses were real awesome people. However, the current one is an intentional asshole.

He wants to review every piece of work. He thinks I am a retard who knows shit. He has no sense of feedback vs. humiliating criticism.
Fucker questions every single word.

For example, consider the following statement, "They are taking the Hobbits to Isengard."

He'd critical question every word like,
What do you mean by 'they'?
Why have you mentioned it?
Why does 'They' exists in English vocabulary?
Why cannot you try 'Your'?
What data points you have?

And after endless questioning, he'd repeat the same with next word. Making sure to break my spirit of working for him.

And let me add that his communication is saturated with heavy jargons which are difficult to understand. At times, I slow down to understand and absorb and he has a problem with that as well.

My past experience says that I learned a lot from strict managers.

But this fucker intentional criticises every aspect with zero to negative appreciation. All in the name of feedback.

I have gotten tons of compliments and good ratings in the past based on my communication and thought process. However, this fucker feels that my thought process is shit and I don't know how to communicate. Furthermore, he feels that I lack sense of ownership.

I really don't know what he saw in my resume or me to even hire me in the first place.

Given how he treats me and others, no wonder people are leaving. And if he fires me, good luck to him finding a sensible replacement who matches his expectations or puts up with his crap.

Are you content with your job or always searching for greener pastures?

I'm split inbetween. Current pay is very decent and working conditions are flexible. However, the work itself is not always that great. I find it to be comedically true how "hard workers" don't get promoted or bonuses, they get more work. There has recently been a heavy influx of what I'd like to classify as "shit tickets" since a guy who was the main "shit ticket doer" left the company after being burnt out.

I work with a small-ish digital agency as a BE dev, so I'm mostly dealing with small to medium scale projects built with WordPress/WooCommerce, with often custom API/ERP integrations on top. I'm not a big fan of the stack as a developer but as a contractor I can understand the business reasons why it is used. Part of me wants to find something else, part of me thinks I'm looking for a perfect company that doesn't exist and I should lower my expectations -- I might find better work for sure, but with the same pay and conditions? It seems unlikely at the moment. The company was recently acquired, so I'm hopeful for the future.

Maybe I'm just being (overly) stupid with my vacation-brain in full effect, but when I console.log() an object in Edge, most of the properties are showing up as (...), which I then have to click to reveal the actual value. I don't recall this being the case before (I'm like 99.999999% sure it never was like this before)... is anyone aware of a recent change that causes this and maybe a setting or something that makes it show the value automatically? Thanks!

Best: Getting fired from a shitty company that regularly lied to middle-management after standing up for my team.

Worst: Losing a team of fantastic direct-reports that went to bat for each other, helped each other out, and help me be a better engineer.
