@Krokoklemme no, I have a lot of fun the rest of the year too. This time of the year people usually have offtime and because we live quite far apart.. what annoys me about Christmas is the repetitive music and all the advertising.
-
I like Christmas actually. Maybe I've just been lucky, but I think my family doesn't do it because it is tradition. But rather because it is a nice time of the year to get together. It's not about the presents but having fun.
-
@0x29A Thanks Corey, it's been a long time. How are you doing?
-
Make your own open source project. It does not have to be big or insanely complex. But you can learn in your own pace and others can help you. And who knows.. your project might come in handy for someone.
Other than that I can only think about working on a group from the beginning with other people. -
Just out of curiosity, has there been anything you would call bad happened yet? In terms of Microsoft and GitHub.
-
In addition to the previous comment, how do you expect someone that can't write self explaining code to write good documentation? That might sound irritating at first, but I personally prefer short and descriptive code rather than long and messy code with a lot of documentation.
-
@turticus22 I assume you are either no professional when it comes to design or you both simply have a different perspective. However, would you say or yourself when a friend showed you some kind of work and you are fairly proficient with it that you would not see the one or another thing one could improve?
I don't know your situation though and how they said it and whatever. But I would be asking myself if I wouldn't do the same thing to others and how I do it. And then tell my friend how he could improve criticism if I find it to be unfair. -
@tahnik why though? They don't seem to force him and just suggest it.
-
Knowing it's Friday soon again.
Joking, I love what I do but often hate who I have to do something for or sometimes the type of work in specific. But overall I love developing. -
@theCalcaholic true, fortunately that never happens to me. If you get my drift.
-
We had the same problem (friends and me). Actually pretty much the same, 1 guy is very into metal, others into rock and I'm into electronic/trance/house..
So one day I came up with the solution, let's make a playlist (spotify for example) where everyone can add whatever they like and thinks that it's not too long or extreme. We play this playlist every time we are together and you are not allowed to skip anything. Unless everyone there agrees to skip a song.
That way no one is excluded and everyone has to deal with the same shit. -
@devs I've been acting for a few years in school and my freetime. Nothing professional but I got told I'm very good (for the age I was at that time etc.).
Well anyway, the point is that while you are acting you sometimes get so much into your role that it's hard to get everything right in your field of view. Getting into a role is literally like being another person and that can go as far as forgeting you wanted to look at the damn neon colored X on the ground. Or rather it feels like out of your role to do so.
What helps is itereation though, after playing the role a few times and training to be in the spotlight it becomes easier to do these things automatically without thinking about it. Much like learning programming I guess. -
@mpourismaiel I'm especially interested in which chair you got. Still seeking for something "better" else than my camping chair, even though it's very comfortable it is not really suited for longer coding sessions.
-
@linuxxx haha, sorry I could not edit anymore and thought why as well not make a joke out of it :D
-
@wiredgecko the problem is that there is no urge for that idea. At least that's what my prof always tells me. 🤔
-
This is far too true.
Often when I go to bed I still think about some problem, most of the time code design related because that's my passion. Then at night the evil spaghetti monster haunts me in my dreams sometimes.
Or if I'm lucky I "think" about the solution and forget it seconds after waking up *tableflip*
Now the problem is that you don't know if you really found a solution or if it just was a stupid dream.
Did that happen to anyone else? -
@Rethought holy shit. Check your text for typos before pressing send.
*amount of people that hate
*far more people
Stupid autocorrect.. -
@practiseSafeHex I think what he also means is the amount of people they hate, not only the amount of hate itself. Far now people know about apple.
-
@Axis Hi, thanks for the tip! I've managed to work around by actively changing the VPN. At some point it accepted me. I'm not quite sure why my IP was not allowed in the first place and read in some blog post that they banned some ranges of IPs and I was simply unlucky enough to be in such a range.
-
Actually that's just like clicking on a programm multiple times till it opens. More clicking makes it faster, right?
Used to do that as a kid, lol.
I've the same habit of Ctrl + S multiple times though. Back when I worked in a media agency we had occasional blackouts for a week or so and since this day I'm autosaving every few minutes and at least twice. -

Well. I guess I'm not welcomed. :(
(Tried without VPN as well) -
@linuxxxx (did I get that right?)
You always have so much to tell. Love your rants. Cheers.
Have you figured out what he programmed in though? Like at least a guess? -
Let's hope it doesn't become a second "StackOverflow". What I mean is that it becomes so full that a smaller friendly community turns into a bigger community full of douchebags or rep greedy guys.
I really like how the community is since the past year or so. -
I feel like this is so hard to find nowadays. Like every prof of us has some meeting after the lecture or something else to do. On the flip side you can often come to them in your free time with questions or whatever.
-
We have one that takes notes from everyone at the end of the class and sends an email to everyone answering the most asked questions. You can tell him what you understood and what you didn't get at all. Great guy, love it.
-
@dontPanic so are IDEs though. I don't care what someone uses to program as long as he/she/it knows what they are doing and are able to produce good code.
I wish people would stop with these (litereally) pointless discussions about IDEs/OSs or what not and start appreciating the variety. Nothing against a good discussion though. -
@Shogan Also I have no idea what politics have to do with programming languages. Like, do normal languages have anything to do with their respective politic?
-
I don't think it's sad. Considering that guy never programmed before and probably did nothing in this direction..
I'm more worried about the fact that he wants to hack a bank. -
@inpothet oh well. Great setup! :D
-
@inpothet did you directly ask the company or did you buy these in some second hand shop? Haven't seen such a good price in a second hand shop yet.
