@superdupernova Loved the music growing up.

@electrineer I take your point, but in my case, this was an in-place upgrade from 10. And, it still (anecdotally) felt faster.
That said, it did have some issues. There was noticable lag in file explorer. Especially in right click context menus.
But, it is a preview build. They could fix that.
And, look, I'm not saying I love Microsoft. But, a win should be counted as a win no matter who's behind the software. So +1 for the UI advance. -
I've basically stopped using php for anything new, but I still have a few old clients that are on Laravel. And, I have to say, everytime I work on it, I sort of miss it.
It's simple when you want it to be. Or, can be ludicrously complex when you need it to be. -
Jupiter Broadcasting has a bunch of good ones. I personally like Linux Unplugged, Self Hosted, and User Error (for a bit of a break). Also, Syntax is pretty good if you're into front end. Dotnet Rocks is good if you are into, well, dotnet.

Lol. When did this become stackoverflow?
Are we just shitting on everyone who asks a question?
Given the millions of shitty, worthless youtube videos out there on "learning to code", perhaps OP is just asking for a trustworthy source.
I get it. I am old also. I had to teach myself. But, my god, do we have to be upset that it isn't as hard now as it was then?
Perhaps we should require everyone learns at least qbasic before they get to post? -
You'll need to pick some language to start with. That's a preference issue mostly.
When you say "coding", do you mean front end, back end, web, desktop, db management, OS specific?
Not trying to be a dick by asking, but hard to recommend anything without knowing your focus. Many tools are great for their specific use case. Very few are good all around.
That said, especially when you are new to a language, picking a focused IDE over a general code editor may be beneficial. Eg... Grab a free trial of phpstorm, instead of jumping into vscode, sublime, emacs, etc...
Just my $0.02. -
@Hazarth
Fair. That gripe is framework dependent.
But, I stand by my js hatred for a plethora of other reasons. -
No problem. I can fix it... Tomorrow.
-
@Pyjong Thanks for the tip, anyway. Maybe next time it's not as simple as ram, it will help me out.
-
@electrineer True, but these are 3-4 years old.
Perhaps I'm just getting old enough that I'm starting to say things like, 'back in my day ram used to last 10 years'. Clearly not true. Just rose colored glasses, I guess. -
@pyjong No, it just also drives me nuts that as a 'programmer' somehow I should also know how to fix hardware issues as my company sees it. Just the 'it's not my job' feeling.
-
@pyjong ... No, either by replacing with known good part or running memtest it ends up being replacing the ram that fixes it.
-
@irene thanks. I'm aware of it, but I boot into windows so rarely at home it just didn't even cross my mind.
