@bahua Taking "front-end" to a new level!
-
DuckDuckGo is just too much of a hassle for me, sometimes its slightly better than google for searching programming related things.
I use Chrome when I develop and Brave when I am browsing.
I use Mullvad as my VPN.
I use Debian and Xubuntu as OS'es (as well as lineageOS for my phone). I am careful when using package managers (whether it be aptitude, npm or something like git)
I use common sense™ as a anti virus.
I think my setup is a pretty good balance between privacy and security vs comfort. -
Its so interesting hearing other people racking on front end devs. People say it's just drop in libraries and installing 100 npm modules but I bet they can't position CSS or make a decent front end structure to save their life.
-
@framework well natural languages are Turing complete so...
-
@Voxera Yep, just think it's funny how similar it is (for logical reasons). I also can't get the imagery of a bison out of my head when I think about it.
-
I had a friend who's prof always forced everyone to start their arrays at [1], because that is how it is done in math.
-
I learned programming through c and c++ but I always thought that doing more complex things in python is confusing (and I am really not a fan of the syntax).
-
Well I got into bitcoins in my early teens and earned them by clicking on links in websites and investing maybe 100 dollars or so. Today that investment is maybe worth about 2000 dollars but I've lost my wallet and never ever used it to pay anything.

Lynx, Emacs for your first two, not sure android studios can be replaced.

If it is important to the code that people should be able to contact me I include a Twitter handle. Otherwise, it is nearly always included in my Gitlab repo so people know I wrote it.
-
@Fradow Sounds like you are writing WordPress like anyone should be writing Node code.
-
I am not saying Wordpress is bad (I wouldn't be qualified to do so as I haven't nearly used it at all) but like nearly all other tools it exists for a reason. Not to insult you but I am pretty sure there exists a fair share of Wordpress developers that would scoff at you for being a PHP dev, and they would be as wrong as you scoffing at them for using Wordpress.

Every programmer using atom

I mean, it's not endemic to 4chan, I've seen it used in other places
-
@Kimmax darnit!

Regex practice : )

You seem to entirely miss the point of angular. Try to work on a larger scalable web app (no, making a checklist alone does not count) and you will quickly notice why TOOLS like angular are needed.
When people are working on larger projects its simply not feasible to avoid streamlining certain things, cowboy coders making everything from scratch are just a roadblock sometimes.
But yes, sites are getting bigger, but the hardware and software running it is getting faster too. -
The guy made a mistake, by giving a junior dev this access the company made a massive fuck up.
-
@IAmNotARobot Get out your rows, there are plenty of fish in the C(olumns).

Two dropped tables in the same evening, ouch.

Regarding learning in school, it really depends. If your goal is to be a proficient web dev there is nearly no reason to go into cs ed, the scene is too fast for any school to keep up with it. If you on the other hand want to do "heavy" (I am aware of how floaty this term is) programming the fundamentals are almost set in stone and many of those fundamentals are for most people best learned in school.
I think what's most important for any programmer is learning a good method for coding, a good logic reasoning and adaptability (the book "The pragmatic programmer" is often regarded as a Bible within the scene and a really good read on this topic). Languages are after all a way to express yourself, a tool for accomplishing something, and in that sense using a hammer to put in a screw might work but is not optimal. -
@Dacexi oh, if it wasn't clear I didn't take that picture.
-
But we are having our "summer" now
-
@Dacexi oh I am from Stockholm, we just have 55 (15°) something.
-
Northern Sweden right now (seriously)
-
Thanks, and I have been a lurker here a couple of months actually haha.
