So last weekend I started digging into openhab2 and tried to integrate my Philips Hue lamps with the help of "Eclipse Smarthome Designer". But they refused to work. I checked the error log of openhab, I double checked my code then the tutorials then the official documentation. I did everything as described. After hours of try and error I tried to switch off the lamps with my openhab android app and bang it worked! Turns out: the integrated web browser of eclipse Smarthome Designer was sending broken data to openhab and the official apps did not...

SYNTAX HIGHLIGHT BOT

I have lots of ideas.
This was one of them.

Last week I was playing around with https://carbon.now.sh and found it quite cool!
Then I thought: https://carbon.now.sh supports Twitter. Cool. But what about devRant?
So yeah, then I got the idea: A devRant Bot that generates https://carbon.now.sh images!

Now, 4 days and 800 lines of code later, the bot is ready!
I even had to rewrite the notification checking code 4 times, because none of them worked perfectly...
But on the other hand, the final solution is so good that I want to keep it a secret for now ;D

HOW TO USE:

All you need to do is to mention the bot!
Example:

<rant>
@highlight
console.log('Hello World!');
</rant>

The bot then generates your syntax highlighted code (as an image) and posts it as comment a few seconds later.
Everything before the "@highlight" will be ignored!
Example:

<rant>
Look at this code:

@highlight
function add(a) {
return a + 1;
}
</rant>

Here, "Look at this code:" will not be included in the syntax highlighted code.
If the comment text ends right after the "@highlight", the bot wont reply, btw.

That's not all!
You can even select the theme for your syntax highlighted code!
Just go to my other rant and read the instructions!
The theme will be used for every image the bot generates for you!

Lol this is so true!!!

I honestly do not understand why people speak so badly about PHP(that's the general vibe I am getting from all these different platforms) or maybe it's because I am still new at it I am yet to find out the reason.

Reasons 1 and 2 arent that important to me. The main reason I code is #3.

1) Brain exercise. I always feel sharp after a coding session, even if it ended in disaster.
2) Lots to do! There's never a full day in code. Make your own universe, if you so desire.
3) Pride. I have a pride problem. I never felt proud of myself no matter what I do. I graduated with a melancholy feeling, same deal when getting my license, same deal when passing a test (God, glad that's over!)... But code makes me proud. I love what I make. I want to show everyone. I want to show it to everyone before it's even finished because I just can't wait. I want everyone to use it and to love it. Because I sure do, and it's the best thing ever.

I could make a viral video, produce a triple platinum record, or build a billion dollar business and still not feel the same level of genuine satisfaction and happiness that I may get from writing good code.

It always keeps me coming back.
