Unpopular opinion: I hate when people start their rants with "unpopular opinion". Most of the time it seems like a pretty standard opinion too! "Unpopular opinion: I hate Wordpress" Yeah so does a lot of people! Just rant for rantings sake! Don't give me your inaccurate market research as a part of the deal!5

That moment when you want to ask a question on SO but some people asked a similar question yet they didn't get the answer you are looking for but you don't want to get shouted at for reposting so you don't post to SO and go to Reddit instead...

Why is it whenever a task is something you've done before, and are confident it will take 10 minutes, it ends up making you tear your hear out for 2 hours?6

that moment when you have to use the 'or' operator and don't know for that moment if you are in c#, vb, sql or php..

I hate when I'm trynna Google something, but I don't really know what it is... So I don't know how to phrase it...6

Took yesterday off to sort out a new passport.
Today on the stand:
Manager: "So we've been trying to get app X running on a dev environment for client X but we couldn't expose it to them"
Me: "Well yeah it's a dev environment if you want to give them one give them access to staging"
Manager: "Oh well we're still going to give them access to dev because they asked for it. It's due for 10am but we couldn't get it to run. You have to get it running since we edited the config files"
*accessing dev environment*
half of config files is missing, random files committed to the repo, SSL certs manually edited, eth0 down and found swan vpn installed.
never taking a day off again.1 -
Got some feedback for an app today via email...
"You are a fucking idiot! Stupid piece of shit!" Well, I guess one user didn't like it then... Rude fucking wankhat!4 -
When all your automated test results come back good... But you just know, deep down, somewhere there's a plate of shit sitting too close to a fan.... waiting!1

Had a PM in my programming class say "I want to understand what my team is going through, so I want to learn to code and the like, really to be a jack of all trades to better myself and my team" 👏 I respect that.2

When I first got Linux, then fell in love with diving through the system on the command line. Then I also realised I finally had the confidence to learn what I wanted, instead of what was advised to me.
Still in no way confident with programming, but I'm getting there. -
I knew I wanted to be a device in college when I found out about it and it all made sense. I loved computers, video games and programming seemed like a no brainer. Now I'm happily developing and graduated with a computer science degree.6

When the project manager complained about how you are late for the deadline, but the keep on adding on new requirements unrelated to the initial goal. OTL

There is nothing quite as satisfying as when you solve a bug that you've been working on for literally the entire day4

So we decided to use Monday evenings as a development night for our game, we are currently down the pub enjoying the sun. Maybe next Monday1

I'm about to give up on chrome canary on my Mac. Opens up tonnes of empty tabs (sometimes over 30) when I put the OS to sleep and fire it up later. It's slow and sometimes I have to refresh pages for the page to display correctly. Gonna go with Firefox for now.1

Spent a week struggling with native win32 APIs, only to find out that there was a built-in support for that in .Net Framework.

I am 17 years old, and I am trying to learn programming. I am currently trying to learn something in BASH. I have also used some JavaScript and Python to get a grasp of some concepts.
It is very satisfying when I am in the mood, but I often find it hard to find motivation to learn. Does anyone have any advice for studying techniques? General advice would also make me very grateful! :-)
I hope this is OK to post here..5 -
had an issue where our clients payment gateway would duplicate the charge (at the gateway...not at the application) before sending it to the bank officially - the bank would detect the duplication then void both charges.
the gateway service admitted this was a bug, the bank it was tied to admitted it was a bug - but they wouldnt fix it. so my solution was to send a special uid with the original transaction (put it in a special field) and had the bank track that one as the "known good"
the funny thing? next version of the gateway api included this as a feature, but i got no credit.1 -
As a dev, I think nothing have made me better prepared or equipped for explaining technical issues and functionality to PMs and board members than having kids and explaining things on their level.

return data;
Found this in our code recently, had to check who pushed it to git. Apparently i'm an excessive commenter 😫2 -
Tim. His name is Tim.
He can only work if being micromanaged, bangs on his desk when frustrated or curses when confused (ALL day), and is the source of all my frustration and rants.
I highly dislike Tim.7
