Project manager: I thought you said you made sure it was live today! I'm going to have to explain that you're the main issue with why it isn't live to management!
Me: have you cleared your cache?.... (long silence)
I swear it's the new "have you tried turning it off and then on again".2 -
My first rant ever got nearly 3x the number of ++'s to get stickers..
I guess I really should... Stick around.7 -

It has to be the community. Just look at devRant - an open community where - unlike on the rest of the internet - people are friendly and warm. Then there's the concept of open source and GitHub, where people post large and complex projects for free and even the smallest of developers can create issues and pull requests (shouldn't they be called push requests though?) - no other profession will help others out in over 15 million different ways.5

A young guy I work with burst into tears today, I had no idea what happened so I tried to comfort him and ask what was up.
It appears his main client had gone nuts with him because they wanted him to make an internet toolbar (think Ask.com) and he politely informed them toolbars doesn't really exist anymore and it wouldn't work on things like modern browsers or mobile devices.
Being given a polite but honest opinion was obviously something the client wasn't used to and knowing the guy was a young and fairly inexperienced, they started throwing very personal insults and asking him exactly what he knows about things (a lot more than them).
So being the big, bold, handsome senior developer I am, I immediately phoned the client back and told them to either come speak to me face-to-face and apologise to him in person or we'd terminate there contract with immediate effect. They're coming down tomorrow...
So part my rant, part a rant on behalf of a young developer who did nothing wrong and was treated like shit, I think we've all been there.
We'll see how this goes! Who the hell wants a toolbar anyway?!401 -
You know tbh I found this community by accident but I'm so glad I did. I'm actually having fun here without all the drama of Facebook.7

Thank you guys for having such an awesome community. I had no idea this existed until yesterday when I found it by accident. Basically what I'm saying is thank you guys for not being drama ridden like Facebook.2

The Android guys at Google take care of the developers and their use case scenarios.
Like when they have to make an app that works on Jupiter.
Or on the Death Star.11 -
Client called with a query regarding her email client. Said to me during the conversation, "I've got yozzamite". Took me a few moments to realise that she meant Yosemite.8

My router is behind my bed so I have an Ethernet cable running through the house from my computer. When I'm drunk I can just follow the cable to bed. it works out pretty well.5
