The main difference between chrome and Safari is an ideological one. When I'm about to watch a movie and have my all dark themed screen at full brightness, chrome can blink a white screen right in my eyes as it was loading its stupid start page.
Safari doesn't do that. That's the difference that matters to me.2 -
Engineering managers will say things like -
- "I'll let the team decide what's best for them" & "code quality is our primary goal" -
but then they'll shoot down any & all requests to go back to some old piece of code and refactor/clean it, because of "deadlines".
Hypocrites, all of them.3 -
It is so comforting when senior senior senior engineers also tell you they have no idea why a fucking test spec occasionally fails. Literally, the spec is fine and all but sometimes, it just decides to say fuck off.3

Sister's new boyfriend at xmas party: So what do you do for a living?
Me: Well, I would say I'm a "full stack" developer, but what does that even mean anymore right? With the state of front-end development being in a constant state of flux and/or kissing its own ass, and every client demanding their one page website used solely for their phone number be offline first WPA SPA Web 7.0 REST Enabled clusterfuck that requires using at least 65% of the AWS stack, most of it completely uselessly. But hey, Neural Network AI looks good on your "grandma's cookies" website, and for only $9,000 per month you can now set the timer on your oven from your phone. So, man, I guess even though I've now been at it twenty years, even I'm not sure what the fuck it is I do anymore. How about you?
Sister's Boyfriend: I'm unemployed.10 -
So I’ve been putting some thought into this for a week now and this is what I’ve come up with for my dev goals.
- Finish learning C
- Learn GoLang
- Learn ASP.NET
- Get better at focusing
- Build more confidence in my skills
- Complete more projects
I have separate reasons for ASP.NET and GoLang. This year I did pretty good at completing my dev goals if I counted right I completed 6/10 of my goals and I’m proud of that, so I believe in myself to be able to complete these goals.2 -
I will take any dev who can defend their point of view under scrutiny but admit to being wrong over one that just agrees with everything i say. I will also take a dev that asks questions over one who agrees with everything i say. In fact the only thing worse than a dev who agrees with everything i say, is one that disagrees with everything i say, and one that doesnt show initiative.1

I hate it when (Java) programmers produce such clutter just because their OOP 101 professor told them to do so in 2005.
I refactored it using `git rm`.12 -
Had a rough time. Dropped out of college twice. Got sent by a shrink to be tested for ADHD. Investigation dropped after phone interviewing my scientology parents. Depressed and admitted to the ward twice. Homeless for a month.
But come Monday I'll start my employment as a COBOL developer. My first qualified job! Code and all resources for learning online has really saved me.8
