The problem with the motherboard might be wonky iommu groups, that don't allow you to cleanly pass the graphics card without also including other random stuff.
This can be fixed by patching the kernel, but it becomes a bit of an ordeal to maintain...
Also fyi, you don't actually need a hardware kvm switch to do a windows vm: there is this a project called looking-glass that allows you to do everything in software, with very little overhead

Voillà, you will never have to dualboot again: you can just live in linux, and fire up vm for gaming.
The performance will be the same as bare metal, as well.

PS: i have a visceral, deep distaste of using tools that only work on one specific cloud vendor. If you literally only care about Jeffs walled garden, maybe there are better ways of acheiving your goals.

As others have said, get a big vm or one+ physical computer, and install k8s.

K3s is quite easy to set up and get started.

SaaS kubernetes is a subset of kubernetes "from scratch" so if u learn to manage k3s you will have all the tools you need pretty much. In fact its a bit overkill.
But on prem k8s stuff could be a good skill to have.

If you do go for k3s, and you want smth more that bare kubectl, you can use Rancher as a management UI.
Terraform also supports it, if you wanna go down that path.

There is surprisingly little that is unique to AWS/Azure, its all the same stuff with different names

@ventgrey i dont think exposing the homelab is strictly necessary.
My homelab k8s cluster uses subdomains for a public domain, but the urls are only resolved by local dns.
I still use cloudflare to get letsencrypt certs, but the services are not exposed to the internet.

This is something i set up recently tho, so im not 100% clear on the detail.

Also this is not really related but: i really wanna get into Sys admin/DevOps is possible, and my friend says its a terrible idea because you have a lot of responsibilities (which is true tbf), and that i should look more towards developer jobs.

I just got out of university so i don't really have much professional experience. He says DevOps is something you do after some years of development, but i have seen several ads for DevOps graduate of junior positions so i think there might still be a chance.

Should i give up on this and look more towards dev work? I'd gladly do Sys admin. for free for a while if its about getting my foot in the door.

Also idk if its just me but I think I have some sort of technical debt to my rice: I could switch, but then all the hours I spent customizing my setup feel kinda wasted since I would have to start over :D

@Conrad k+m is actually quite usable once you re-bind the mouse Y axis to Yaw, its pretty good :D

Also you can use an xbox gamepad if you have one of those
