What do you mean old OP, 6800xt came out a handful of years ago smh.
I have a 1070 as well, it runs great still.
The trick is, i don't have a screen in my house > 1080p :P -
Oh cmon, its not that bad
Or rather i was more interested in the milder stuff, there ain't no greyzone if they fucking beat you. -
@jestdotty thank you for the long post, i feel like that cleared it up a little bit :)
-
Based lizardOS enjoyer
-
@TrayKnots damn, you got a lot of stuff going on :)
The problem with the motherboard might be wonky iommu groups, that don't allow you to cleanly pass the graphics card without also including other random stuff.
This can be fixed by patching the kernel, but it becomes a bit of an ordeal to maintain...
Also fyi, you don't actually need a hardware kvm switch to do a windows vm: there is this a project called looking-glass that allows you to do everything in software, with very little overhead
If you are interested in what the full setup looks, you might wanna skip through someOrdinaryGamer's video here: https://youtu.be/h7SG7ccjn-g/... -
You are so close to greatness OP
Now if you just can get your hands on a spare gpu, you can do gpu passthrough.
Voillà, you will never have to dualboot again: you can just live in linux, and fire up vm for gaming.
The performance will be the same as bare metal, as well. -
Oops i didnt specify, i was talking specifically about NixOS
-
@lorentz that seems outrageously high, rip.
Good thing is if you are in Shenghen, you could get a remote job anywhere in europe -
@lorentz dont u mean oracle?
-
Why was devRant removed from stores?
-
@Elendil
PS: i have a visceral, deep distaste of using tools that only work on one specific cloud vendor. If you literally only care about Jeffs walled garden, maybe there are better ways of acheiving your goals. -
As others have said, get a big vm or one+ physical computer, and install k8s.
K3s is quite easy to set up and get started.
SaaS kubernetes is a subset of kubernetes "from scratch" so if u learn to manage k3s you will have all the tools you need pretty much. In fact its a bit overkill.
But on prem k8s stuff could be a good skill to have.
If you do go for k3s, and you want smth more that bare kubectl, you can use Rancher as a management UI.
Terraform also supports it, if you wanna go down that path.
There is surprisingly little that is unique to AWS/Azure, its all the same stuff with different names -
@ventgrey i dont think exposing the homelab is strictly necessary.
My homelab k8s cluster uses subdomains for a public domain, but the urls are only resolved by local dns.
I still use cloudflare to get letsencrypt certs, but the services are not exposed to the internet.
This is something i set up recently tho, so im not 100% clear on the detail. -
Is DLSS that much better than FSR2?
-
That warning is there for a reason OP, namely to save yourself a lot of headache when the package breaks in a year or 2, and u have no clue how it even got there in the first place.
Im just saying, as someone who has several 4-5 yo arch installs -
@Demolishun no, but it was regex :P
-
Maybe I will look into it then, the UI is kinda slow and convoluted in my experience so it would be nice to have desktop integration
-
@Kaivo that jira script sounds awesome :D do you have a like to that stuff?
-
@robsbobs thanks for the feedback guys.
my contact at the company said she will still try to arrange meetings with clients so maybe ill get lucky and start sooner, but if she said its unlikely to work out idk if I can rely on that.
I can indeed take the offer and still look for other jobs, but is that something you do? It seems like a pretty dick move tbh, but practically speaking its very convenient for me (ᗒᗣᗕ) -
What is this CoC for tho? Us it meant to be a template?
-
Also this is not really related but: i really wanna get into Sys admin/DevOps is possible, and my friend says its a terrible idea because you have a lot of responsibilities (which is true tbf), and that i should look more towards developer jobs.
I just got out of university so i don't really have much professional experience. He says DevOps is something you do after some years of development, but i have seen several ads for DevOps graduate of junior positions so i think there might still be a chance.
Should i give up on this and look more towards dev work? I'd gladly do Sys admin. for free for a while if its about getting my foot in the door. -
Also idk if its just me but I think I have some sort of technical debt to my rice: I could switch, but then all the hours I spent customizing my setup feel kinda wasted since I would have to start over :D
-
I have the opposite issue lol, my rice repo has been sitting on github with no substantial change in like 3 months; I likes ricing and I wanna add stuff but really there is not much I could meaningfully improve :D
I guess I'm at that point where I should just switch wms -
I usually listen to Linux/sysadmin podcasts, Jupiter Broadcasting has some good ones. I also listen to some history ones, mainly Isaac Mayer's History of japan podcast
-
Man this whole ordeal is such a shitshow, i had no idea he resigned from the FSF as well...
Its sad to see him ousted from the foundation he created, i understand MIT firing him but this seems a bit much...
That said RMS brought this onto himself, he should really learn to keep some opinions to himself: he's always been a weirdo, but its far better for everyone if he sticks to talking exclusevy about software. -
Ok thanks, just wanted to make sure i dont accidentally annoy people by sending them encrypted enails they can't open
-
@stop both of those look pretty good, i am not sure however what happens when i send email to normal people (a.k.a people without encrypted email): can i choose to send the message either in cleartext or encrypted? and if it is encrypted, how are they gonna see it?
-
@Conrad k+m is actually quite usable once you re-bind the mouse Y axis to Yaw, its pretty good :D
Also you can use an xbox gamepad if you have one of those -
@terraria99 Welcome to the galaxy cmdr, don't forget to pick up your free Anaconda at Hutton Orbital! o7
-
@fuckwit Rust looks really intersting i have to say, whats your experience with it compared to C? Is it a straight upgrade or just different?
Also ugh scripting in bash, why brother? Why? :P
