Crippling depression.

Volunteered to fix a brittle component in our app. Turned out to be 26 classes of mostly copy pasted code that is riddled with todos and void of feedback for the user. Here's a pretty representative sample of this code's quality:

I learned coding the best way: While getting paid. I was an Excel junkie (still consider myself as one) and a colleague taught me PHP. This gave me the skills to apply for real programming jobs. Eventually I was hired at a company as a PHP developer who would need to be flexible enough to transition into a C# developer within the next 6 months. It wasn't easy, but after about 8 months and a 1-week course later I was programming in C# .NET with grace. Not looking back at PHP now at all. Naturally, today I can apply for a whole bunch of different jobs that I definitely could not three years ago.

I have the dearth of good programmers to thank for this of course and I am grateful every moment when I understand how lucky I've been.

Five or six years ago I was mining bitcoin. I was among first miners. I had a lot of bitcoin. I sold most of btc for 1$ or under to buy laptop so I can code. Bitcoin price was 1200$ at one point. I paid my laptop 300.000$. I am now senior dev. Fck money.

Meanwhile at a presentation.

Me: This is the new feature that I've been working on.

App: "There was an error loading the application!"

Me: (shrieks in horror!)

No Jack, not now... I'm busy.

My team is quite international and although we speak English among ourselves, most people still comment their code in their mother tongue.
I have learn a lot from reading my colleagues code. Mainly curse words from all over the world. It's great.

I had been trying to fix a bug for the whole day, I decided to sleep for a while. During my sleep, I dreamt I was working on the code and I fixed the issue. I woke up, tried what I did in my dream and it Worked! I was so confused and happy
