When I was just starting with programming I used to google a lot (more) of my problems. But just just copying them made me feel guilty, since I could not handle the problem myself. So I decided to analyse a code to the point where i understand exactly how it works. Sometimes it took me a couple of hours to understand a method, which was written 1 or 2 levels over my current level, but it was totally worth it. I learned a lot about Java, how to write cleaner code in general and how to read and understand code quickly.6 -
Guys, Guys, Guys!
I've just won employee of the month! And you know what is even better? The elders of the internet allowed to lend the internet to me to use it in my speech! I couldn't be happier (they even know who I am!)10 -
When you start inspecting code of the page you are using, and you find something like this...
Not sure if I want to make this reservation anymore...1 -
Me: Browsing the security of a website.
Tell the website developer that they are using the SHA-1 hashing algorithm for encrypting the credentials of it's registered users.
Them: Yeah, so what?
Me: You shouldn't be using an algorithm which was exploited years ago in the age of 2016.
Them: Don't worry, nothing will happen.
Me: *facepalm*6 -

Feeling sad about the developers working on edge.
We don't work on things that people might not use; but they -
Just two more weeks until I'm at full productivity again... Typing with this thing on is not very easy!5

A young guy I work with burst into tears today, I had no idea what happened so I tried to comfort him and ask what was up.
It appears his main client had gone nuts with him because they wanted him to make an internet toolbar (think Ask.com) and he politely informed them toolbars doesn't really exist anymore and it wouldn't work on things like modern browsers or mobile devices.
Being given a polite but honest opinion was obviously something the client wasn't used to and knowing the guy was a young and fairly inexperienced, they started throwing very personal insults and asking him exactly what he knows about things (a lot more than them).
So being the big, bold, handsome senior developer I am, I immediately phoned the client back and told them to either come speak to me face-to-face and apologise to him in person or we'd terminate there contract with immediate effect. They're coming down tomorrow...
So part my rant, part a rant on behalf of a young developer who did nothing wrong and was treated like shit, I think we've all been there.
We'll see how this goes! Who the hell wants a toolbar anyway?!401 -
How personal have you gotten with the usernames that have liked your posts? I see the same people like my posts all the time and I'm getting attached. 😂8

Getting +25 on your rant is the equivalent of a gold star on schoolwork: "You did an excellent job...here's a sticker."

when you are the one that knows about networks and computer and no one else knows about and it's my fault that it doesn't work and the ISP has a full log of everything that has been done. how about no they don't because it's just router changes not anything that we browsed to on the internet. why don't you go back and do what you do and I do what I do?

client emails they are furious that changes were pushed at end of day and we broke the website. Being up at 11:30pm to fix changes to make client happy so they can test website over weekend for a Tuesday launch.
