@fullstackclown I WAS a PM am now a dev. You should have met the guy. He was an asshole and the rest of the dev team hated him. But hey, maybe you are right.
-
not equating this to your situation but have a funny story. When i was a PM I had a dev ask to stop the weekly meetings and stop bothering him. So I did, why not do an experiment. I monitored what he was doing, update my schedules base on how things were progressing. Kept e-mails to a minimum and he always knew what needed to be worked on next. I loved it. He was an asshole so less talking was great. After 7 months we do an end-of-year review. He complains i don't communicate enough.

The HR system for hiring programmers/developers is sooo broken.

@PonySlaystation Not that this justifies the requirements, but I am betting they have a budget that forced them to make it Junior. Even then, that junior salary is silly low.
-
I wonder how many displays were needed to fix it?

Say "Thank you Indeed". Every job I put on Indeed I got flooded with applicants from around the world looking for sponsorship and help getting here. We, just like everyone else I am applying for, now puts the "Are you a resident?" and "Can you legally work in Canada?"
I wish you the best of luck....unless we are competing for a job. -
yes, the download is large. I think I saw over 12GB but that still doesn't explain it. The M1 was 20 minutes total. CPU usage was pretty high the whole time. Disk usage was pretty high too.
During the i7 install I looked at CPU load. It blipped up to 20% every few minutes from a few percent. The disk usage wasn't bad. Besides the download, there was normal network activity. -
My M1 laptop took a reasonable amount of time. The i7......4 hours sounds right.
I would love to know why the difference is so big. -
ever looked at TLA+?

This is every company I apply too.....maybe I am the least qualified

@NotJeckel yeah. He is saying Covid is fake. It is some other unnamed disease that is identical to this "fake Covid" that is causing the problems. Maybe we should name it "Covid"?
Yeah....that's it. -
I had a division head like that. We had a really good conversation one day, that i am sure he regrets, about this. I asked why he keeps hiring consultants, spending a fortune, to make recommendations we could. His response was "scapegoat and I get what I want". He tells the consultants what the outcome is. That's the way consultants work. The C-levels trust consultants more than employees and that makes two of the same recommendations going up the chain. Easy approval.
I hated how right he was. -
@Voxera Thanks!
-
@Voxera I could be wrong. From what I recall, 20 years ago, when c# first came out it was tied to the .NET framework and that framework was tied to windows and IE only. I remember our teams had to install IE that we used for one application. But, again, I could be very wrong. I did try to look it up but it took longer than 2 minutes sooo....
-
@Voxera I never said that all their software was bad. I have nothing against C# but when it first came out it would only work on Internet Explorer....

@devdiddydog Old school examples. Amipro and lotus 123 where widely regarded as superior. I read an article back then that outlined Microsoft marketing strategy at the time. Get the public on board and "force" management to get what people want.
Current example. A friend worked for microsoft and they would market and really push as many of the products as possible to management since they "work better together".
I am certainly not the most knowledgeable person but it does line up with this post. Or appears to. Ultimately, there is no perfect solution to anything. Personally, I got no skin in the game and this is just my two nickels worth. -
MS products are inferior to the competition but close enough for management. Has been that way since the 80s.
MS has always been focused on marketing to the customer and using that to leverage decision makers to go with their products. Now they market to management and you end up with...... -
if i was an optimistic cynic, that would mean a 3 hour at work vacation and then respond with "unable to determine offending instance due to lack of logging information"
-
@EddieBro I was just going to use it to get past the "HR" garbage but you do have a point
-
@glemiere That's funny. You look forward and I look back. Can you name 3 people who lived between 1700-1800? Nothing I do will ever matter in a 100 years.

sometimes all three. -
I had an employee like that. This person was really insecure and scared. I got sick of it and said firmly but nicely, "You know how to do this. You know how to solve any issue that pops up. This is your responsibility now. You got this."
It helped a lot. -
The "matrix" screen with the falling characters being a thing.

I need to see one example where an emoji actually helps. I just can't picture it.
