    @Aitkotw no

    I’m going to give it my 638262758th shot soon with @Rekonnect

    @calmyourtities I've installed one of these in my virtual machine but always had some concerns about compatibility with my laptop.

    As much as I love Mac OS, I’d personally rather use Linux on a laptop... I just don’t get the feel of using Mac OS on it... πŸ˜…πŸ˜…πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

    @Aitkotw No, it's free, and yeah, compat-issues are sometimes a headache, but I have to say that with this laptop, it was all so smooth. Only issue I have it's the trackpad not doing three/four finger gestures (doesn't matter, I'm more of a keyboard guy) and the Wireless (solved by using my phone as USB tether by now).

    @Electrux I've had always bad luck with Linux and Laptops, always has issues, so this is like my last alternative before surrendering to containers and Windows xD.

    Not that I don't like Linux, I love it! But sometimes I just have bad luck matching distros with my hardware :/
  • 1
    @Pointer what hardware do u have?
    Just the slightest chance I might be able to help u a little 😊

    PS. Being a C/C++ fanatic, I approve of ur name πŸ˜ŽπŸ˜Žβ˜ΊοΈβ˜ΊοΈπŸ‘ŒπŸ»πŸ‘ŒπŸ»

    @Electrux
    My Laptop is a Lenovo 700-15isk

    In a nutshell:
    i5-6300HQ
    8GB RAM DDR4
    Optimus (Intel + NVIDIA discrete GPU)

    So far, what bothers me on Linux is that my go-to DE it's XFCE and it freaks me the issues with the vSync, you know, browser-scrolling cuts and all of that stuff.
    I enjoy Gnome, but it becomes tedious after some time, KDE it's great, but buggy as hell.

    Also, this is my main laptop but also I only use it for personal purposes, at work I have a neat PC with ArchLinux, working like a charm.

    OSX for poor people

    @Pointer
    Well... I used a similar config laptop with arch linux...

    i7-5700 HQ
    12 Gigs RAM
    Optimus ( worst support ever )

    Arch Linux was the only to get it working properly...

    What I did was:

    Install Arch Linux with ur distro of choice ( XFCE I guess )
    Install the Bluetooth( bluez, blueman, etc ) and network-manager packages which I think u already do...

    To get rid of the screen tearing, use compiz window manager / compositor.
    Best way to get that wud b using the AUR to get the
    package:
    Compiz-Manjaro
    Link:
    https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/...

    To get the Optimus drivers working, install Nvidia Optimus using the Antergos Linux guide...
    Link:
    https://antergos.com/wiki/hardware/...

    U should have working Optimus with that.

    One thing I wud like to note is that Bluetooth and some features like sleep and hibernate didn’t work for me perfectly ( setting up Bluetooth to work properly with external speakers was pain ).
  • 2
    @Pointer
    To get the system to sleep properly:
    At terminal:
    systemctl sleep/suspend
    One of the two... can’t remember correctly...

    For hibernate:
    systemctl hibernate

    Again, it worked for me but may not work for u... but I hope it does ☺️☺️

    Hope it all works for u...
    😎😎✌🏻✌🏻

    @Pointer
    Forgot to tell that compiz-manjaro setups the desktop environment for u automatically if ur using Mate or XFCE! 😁😁
  • 1
    @Electrux I've been using Antergos and that worked almost out-of-the-box, hahaha. But I'll try later with the way you tell me, thanks :D
  • 1
    @Pointer
    Ur welcome...
    Just, when u try it, take a deep breath before u do... πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
    Setting up is the worst part of it always for me πŸ˜…πŸ˜…πŸ˜…
    Makes me go retarded πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ˜

    I've always had bad luck trying to install macOS in my Asus laptop so I ended up buying the latest overpriced macbook pro
  • 0
    @singh029 Welp, I prefer it this way, it works amazing.
  • 1
    @joostdelange It happens, I just had luck with my hardware hahaha
  • 1
    If it works then it isn't stupid.
  • 5
    I would buy a MacBook, wipe it, and install arch.
  • 1
    @ewpratten Yeah, but I'm poor, so no MacBook for me :(
  • 3
    @Pointer I am about $600 out...
  • 0
    @ewpratten Less than me, I'm like ~$2000USD low, hahahaha
  • 1
    But being honest, I'd rather spend my money on a car's first payment than in a "overpriced" piece of hardware (I know that it's not that "overpriced" but why would I spend money on something I can have a decent alternative by the moment?)

    My opinionated thoughts:

    I think you’ve purposely locked yourself in to the apple ecosystem (wasting time setting up Mac OS, using stuff like iCloud, etc). πŸ˜‚

    And (no offense) god help you with the shitty trackpad you probably have. 🀣

    I have NEVER seen a laptop with a trackpad that comes even close to a macbook trackpad. Don’t even get me started on how massive the trackpad is on the new macbook, it widens the gap even more. Most laptops are unusable garbage without a separate mouse.

    Me thinks you should just use windows or use an open source linux distro, if you don’t have a mac. Just my $0.02. But if you really love Mac OS...then OK i understand your choice. :-)

    @mzgaljic I don't use iCloud because it's useless on a hackintosh, the only thing you gain is getting yourself locked out.

    About the trackpad, as I said previously, I don't quite use it, I'm more a hands-on--keyboard, so I rely on keyboard shortcuts rather than touchpad gestures.

    I use Windows, but it lacks a great support for the dev environments I use, Linux distros get unstable real quick for me and I spend more time setting up things than doing stuff.

    I just choose to install macOS because some months ago, we asked to our professor (an awesome one) why he used a Mac and not a cheaper laptop with Linux, I quote "I've been a heavy Linux user since ages ago, I mount my servers on solid Linux distros, but when I'm working, I expect things to work, and macOS it's stable enough that things just work (most of the times)".

    So I'm here, I've spend only "one day" setting up my dev env and so far no issues.

    (PS: At work, my workstation runs ArchLinux, so I'm fine using the three OSses)
  • 2
    @Pointer Fair enough. How does Mac OS run on your machine? Genuinely curious...your machine probably has better specs than most macbooks haha.
  • 1
    @mzgaljic Also, my touchpad it's not so bad at all, on Windows and Linux it works fine, just saying that on hackintosh, the workarounds map the gestures to keyboard shortcuts, and i'd rather not have touchpad gestures than fall short on not being able to use my laptop with only the keyboard.
  • 1
    @mzgaljic Well, some hours ago I was running Android Studio, built an APK (a clean one, nothing serious) while running an iPhone X simulator and building a Nativescript app. It didn't stuttered, it took some time, but nothing freezed.

    Specs are "okayish" for nowadays development, but I'm planning on upgrading the RAM though, 8GB it's never enough, hahaha
  • 1
    @Pointer My macbook pro has only 8gb, still serves me well for most development. Once a month it might go over 8gb and the OS has to page to disk, but it’s reasonably fast due to the SSD.

    My laptop at work has the opposite problem...64gb (not a typo) windows machine. A bit overkill hahaha
  • 0
    @mzgaljic Hahaha, well, It might be overkill depending on what you do. Do you train neural networks on it? xD
  • 1
    @Pointer I wish. Let’s just say corporate has too much money at their disposal. πŸ˜‚ I guess 64gb is useful for certain workloads though, like you mentioned!
  • 1
    It sounds awesome, not sure I like the idea of dealing with comatability issues...
  • 1
    @linkedlist Yeah, that's one catch though. So if you don't feel ready to try, and fail (and maybe never get it right) don't break your head trying it, hahahaha.

    Or, just do it, you know, for the "lolz" :P
  • 1
    @Pointer I remember once upon a time I spent almost an entire hackathon trying to configure a hackintosh πŸ˜‚ πŸ˜‚
  • 0
    @linkedlist That's called determination, hahahaha.

    I'd recommend doing it when you have some free time, as there are a lot of caveats and small things that may go wrong, but you can almost be sure with having the following hardware:

    Intel Processor (i-Family)
    intel Graphics (if you have optimus, you'll need to disable it)
    Realtek Ethernet
    Synaptics Touchpad

    That's it, other stuff like ACPI-related (battery), screen and motherboard also play a role, but maybe there are some patches available that can handle most-scenarios.

    I use Mac OS on my MacBook too... I feel so happy when things work properly... on arch with my gaming laptop, I was always fiddling with sound, Bluetooth, and xorg problems ☹️😞
    And to b honest, I do love the UI of Mac πŸ™‚
    I do miss i3 window manager though... that was fun πŸ˜…
  • 1
    Good sign, right?
  • 1
    @Gerrymandered How's it going?
  • 1
    @Pointer I’m the setup phase, I see it doesn’t like my Ethernet tho :/

    Otherwise, very well
