rui7257617yIf you watch “The arrow” I have one word for you.. Felicity
More power to girl coders :) out there -
gorsamp19547yThis shit is sexist. Women do not need encouragement to be coders, they need respect. Nobody encouraged me to be a coder, I was a reclusive nerd who loved math and chemistry and I hate what 99% of people say.
I think "girl power" in coding counteracts the "girls suck at coding" that is endemic to the field, the solution is not to overcompensate, but live the balance. Be fair, do not live in the shadow of injustice.
Be excellent to each other. -
@gorsamp There was this thing over here a while ago (don't have sources) where a few woman came forward about being sexually abused within the television broadcasting industry.
Then a few men also came forward and they reaaaally tried to make it mostly about the woman because it was a way bigger problem for woman.
Fucking hell. -
No. Special treatment is not the way to go. If you were a rarity in a sphere of your interest, would you like to constantly be reminded of it or just do the work and get treated the same as the rest? @gorsamp is right.
-
@gorsamp I think we all agree partly
But @sunny44 talked about respect not encouragement.
And I don't agree completely. Not that girls should not be encouraged, no, anyone with close interest (to coding) should be encouraged - it's a good thing, dude :D
And tbh, not that they [coding girls] are worse than men - but they are rare - that's what makes them special for some -
gorsamp19547y@linuxxx those stories are running here, lists are being compiled of assholes in Hollywood
@BambuSource yes, of the 4 lines in the post, 3 of them are about respect. It is the fourth line that draws a sharp distinction, and specifically picking diamonds implies beauty and conjures imagery of marriage that reduces the woman to a thing. At this point I am looking into it too much and I am just a triggered snowflake but my first reaction was negative and this is a place for ranting -
@gorsamp
oh come on, now woman are beimg reduced to objects again when someone says they are "diamonds in stone". Its just a figure of speech man, you wouldnt feel reduced to a thing if someone told you that, would you?
I agree with what you said but please dont try to protect women from everything, especially if its nothing.. π -
gorsamp19547y@simulate Where was I protecting women? I said it was sexist, and admitted I may be looking into it too much. You are misguided.

@gorsamp
sorry i actually wanted to edit that last part but I took too long. didnt turn out right. Also I didnt even pay good attention to the part after you said "women are reduced to objects" because that just triggered an entire movie in my head of women complaining about being reduced to objects (which I personally never think of doing), but today what I see is women with a literal "make-over" in their face, an instagram account full of pictures only of their bodies and nothing they do or have created or seen. I am just a little sick of this weird controversy amongst woman. Some say they feel oppressed and reduced to nothing but sex objects and others appearently aim to be exactly that.
