Friend messaged me:

"could you install Linux onto my laptop? I'm getting really fucking tired of windows 10."

YES YES YES OF COURSE I CAN AND I WILL. EVERY DE-WINDOWS-ED PC IS ONE MORE!

    Prepare for being his personal Linux support

    The new Ubuntu is looking very user-friendly.
  • 14
    Wooooo! β™‘
  • 12
    In my opinion Ubuntu is more user friendly than windows 10

    @xenira He has used Fedora and mint for years without a single problem. He's just not good with installing it :)
  • 9
    An enema is more user-friendly than Windows 10.
  • 6
    @linuxxx And still, the most important question hasn't been asked: Which distro are you planning to install?
  • 5
    @Qaldim Still thinking about that one but either Fedora or Mint I think :). Depends on what he wants though!
  • 3
    @ThatDude He's used to windows, mint and fedora :)
  • 3
    @linuxxx (I've mentioned this in another rant as well:) As a Windows user, I've found Mint very close to the Windows UX. But someday, if I switch to Linux, I'll install Manjaro KDE...
  • 2
    @ThatDude Maybe someday or if I ever get rich enough to get a second laptop. For now, Windows fill my programming needs. 😊
  • 3
    @ThatDude Well, given all the reading here about how Windows 10 have the bad tendency to mess up with GRUB, I'd rather not dual boot... πŸ˜…
  • 2
    @ThatDude I occasionally test a distro that catches and appeases my eyes, but never got me hooked enough to ditch Windows once and for all.
  • 2
    @ThatDude That's what makes me most happy, same way Linux makes other people happy as well!!! Different people, different tastes, end result the same: devRant!!! πŸ˜€

    @okee I'll be your friend als je wilt

    @xenira

    I would give all of my family members and friends free Linux support if they switched over from Windows.
  • 2
    I've been slowly re-imaging our Windows workstations at my office with Ubuntu.

    No one else from IT knows yet because they're all in a remote office.

    Total domination is coming 😈

    Install a Unity skin on his Win10 and laugh in silence! 😈😈😈

    I just switched to fedora but I'm having g a lot of problems with flash support. Nothing I do works. Might switch to Ubuntu or UE

    Don't forget to scrape the Windows sticker off!
  • 0
    @okee xD on point

    @lordmirziteh for flash use google Chrome

    it will work on Fedora fine!
  • 2
    @dhanvi Chromium* I don't need Google code on my computers ;)
  • 0
    @dhanvi actually no! I am still new to Linux so, there's probably a way. And the plug-ins are active. Idk what's going on. Facebook videos and gifs won't load.
    Not used to having to do work to get things to work right!

    @okee I do that all the time. I start to forget my Dutch sometimes which is a total shame. All of a sudden I'll be talking French or something. Now my sister does it, too. So we'll just be talking in English and my mom comes by with a very weird look

    @lordmirziteh I really hope that Facebook doesn't rely on Flash anymore (it's pretty much obsolete by now and all of the 'big players' should've migrated already).

    Are you sure, that it can't be another problem, e. g. some media codec, or drm bullshit missing?
  • 1
    @theCalcaholic well I'm not SURE but I do have codecs installed. I fux with it some more
  • 0
    @lordmirziteh Flash is actually not integrated in any mobile browser anymore and disabled by default in Chrome and Firefox on windows as well (not sure about IE, Edge and Safari).
    So it would surprise me, is Facebook was still using it.

  • 1
    @lordmirziteh Ok, so they still use it... *shudders*
  • 1
    @theCalcaholic right? It's really the only thing wrong so far
  • 0
    @lordmirziteh Did you try Gnash? I think, the Midori browser has it by default, however you can integrate it into other browsers (like Firefox) too...

    @theCalcaholic yum didn't return anything on search but I'll give it another go. I like how this turned into tech support πŸ˜‚

    @lordmirziteh :D

    They don't seem to be in the package repositories if Fedora. I added the links to the last comment.

    @theCalcaholic I actually enjoy fucking with Linux, but as of the current moment, it's making me late for Calculus haha
  • 1
    @linuxxx Chromium is the shit!
  • 1
    @simo002m I'll always be a FF lover but Chromium is at LEAST better than Chrome!
  • 1
    @linuxxx Well Firefox were bugging me at some point, not really being responsive when I clicked on a Youtube video(probably has something to do with flash support), I sort of use both now, but I mostly use Chromium, although I do use Firefox when I have to use my windows partition in school.

    Enthusiastic Linux installing should be a thing. :D
  • 0
    if someone asks you that question know that you'll be their tech support from now on

    @linuxxxxxx Look at one of my first comments :)

    DEATH TO THE WINDOWS! ARGHHHHH!
  • 1
    @xenira actually if the other person is using pc just for web and managing files and office works, it's better to just install Ubuntu. Did that for a couple of people and they never had any problems
