The battle against Flash didn't happen overnight and Chrome is far from the first to block it. This has been coming for at least 6 years if you follow news. Six years in tech is a really long time...

And Flash has been a major security issue.

I believe Apple was first in saying no to flash. I remember trying to access some shitty flash website on my iPod Touch and it wouldn’t load. This was around 2009-2010 so yeah it’s been ongoing before chrome existed.
