they were reinvented because a new thing was need that didnt need constant changing and didnt made the carrier vibrate way to much and could support way more weight with putting moar wheels like nobody business on it ... at least stuff that you could drive, locomotive didnt gave a shit about that ... though in that field rail technology was the one that need to change in that case ... but I get your message, just wanted to point that out.
