TIL that Apple has a self-service repair service. They'll ship parts to you, and you can download their official device repair manuals to fix your device yourself.

“Self Service Repair is intended for individuals with the knowledge and experience to repair electronic devices. If you are experienced with the complexities of repairing electronic devices, Self Service Repair provides you with access to genuine Apple parts, tools, and repair manuals to perform your own out-of-warranty repair. Follow these steps to perform a variety of out-of-warranty repairs for iPhone and Mac, such as display replacements.”

It's nice that you can pick which parts and tools you need so the $60 hex screwdriver handle is optional.

Everytime I read "genuine apple parts" I chuckle.

You mean the same parts underpaid workers manufacture in China/Sri Lanka/Vietnam/whatever that everyone else uses.

But, they are "genuine" because they pass through Apple, and thus they can charge you their overpriced "value" in the name of "genuine". 😂

    It’s apparently very shitty.

No surprises of course, it’s Apple.

On an ideal world, phones should be designed so they could be repaired with just a normal screwdriver, instead of needing two suitcases of tools.

@CoreFusionX apple also requires each component to be paired or it will intentionally refuse to work, even if its from another genuine apple device 🤡
Replace a display? Have to transfer over the old home button or half the shit breaks

@ostream watched some videos about it yesterday. People were sent screen modules and tools if they had broken screens
